Gentlemen,
I am repowering to a 2003 496 MAG HO in a 1996 272 Baja. The engine has 12 hours on it. What kind of oil should I use? One suggestion I had was synthetic 30 or 40 weight as opposed to the Mercruiser oil???? Any suggestions?? Will I have problems with the rings sealing with the synthetic oil?

My goal is 70mph but I think I will need all of the tricks to get there!!

496 Mag HO and headers and you should be right about there. Try a 25 Mirage Plus Prop.

Any good quality straight 40 weight will be ok changed frequently.

PERSONALLY,, I run straight 40 Royal Purple Synthetic.

It's gonna be close. My friend has a 2001 with a 496HO in it. It runs 67-68 gps. Lab a 25 mirage and you should be there.
