I have a 1985 28 SS with small blocks. I just replaced the heads on the port motor and after I put the distributor back in I realized I can't get to the harmonic balancer with a timing gun because it's way up underneath the back seat. Anyone who has seen the engine compartment in a Cigarette 28 SS with TRS drives knows what I'm talking about. So I'm curious, how do I set my timing? A friend of mine said sometimes theres an inspection hole in the back of the bellhousing so you could time it off the flywheel. Anyone ever heard of this? If so, where would it be? I looked and can't see anything obvious. I'd appriciate any help from anyone who has run into this type of problem.
