Well, I am winning the battle of the stereo and am down to the subs. I have two JL Audio 8's in little boxes that fir (hopefully) in the "storage" on each side of the boat (behind the groovey plexi doors). If anyone else has doen this, how did you secure the boxes so they don't (or won't) flop around?
I figured I would just thru-bolt them to the outside of the hull . . . or run SS sheetmetal screws thru the hull . . .

If you are going to run screws through the hull, you're right to make them SS. Otherwise the rust lines rust lines running down the sides of your hull will look bad.
Also, consider whether you want the head on the inside or outside of your boat. Head on the inside: It's less likely someone will steal your screws, but the sharp ends can play heck with your inflatable fenders. It's all a trade off.

Yeah, as long as you run the screws through from the outside and don't booger the heads up, they'll look pretty trick!
But seriously, I've been contemplating installing a set of 15" that I have in the side compartment right next to the bolsters. Just a little nervous about hacking up my side panels. Also worried those big subs might reverberate the hullsides too much.

Speaking of heads . . . I am also thinking about mounting my head on the deck. That way, no one will (a) want to use it and (b) if they do, they won't ***** about the headroom.
Any "legit" responses re: mounting the enclosures would be appreciated.

bford- To be clear, the idea of thru-bolting the enclosures is a joke. The head unit (aka, AM/FM tuner / CD player) is in the cuddy and a wired remote is just outside. I am asking about subwoofer enclosures mounted in the storage trays on either side of the cockpit. I am pretty sure I saw someone with such a setup on this board.

I should have my boat out of storage this week. I'll post some pictures of my 2 - 12" subs, amp, custom speaker pods, and remotes. It took a while to figure out, but I was very happy with the install and the sound quallity. Anyone who has heard the system can attest to that!
My subs are mounted in the little side compartments in front of the doors, sorta under the blosters, and the door still opens. There is still room for storage as well.
Like I said, you may want to wait to see this before you do yours.

Dave- I have 2 8" JL Audio in tiny boxes (16 x 9 x 8) and I am planning on doing something as per your set-up. i just don't know how I am going to mount 'em. Shoot me some pics at your earliest convenience.

I also wondered about mounting subs on the storage wall, but was afraid the doors wouldn't open. I would also like to see some pics too! Here's what I did for some sound for the back of the boat... they sound good and really get the music to the sunpad.
