Default Hydromotive QIV Vs Bravo 1 Q"s

Just curious about the performance difference between these two props. I have a set of Hydro QIV 25's and a set of Quicksilver 25's. I noticed the 3 blades raise the bow higher, harder to get on plane, is a little looser, and a lot faster. The QIV's lift the stern, quick planing, feels that it is plowing water, tighter turning a little more in control feel, and alot slower.

Would it be worth it to try a set of Bravo 1's, or would they be very comparable to the QIV's.

I just tried out a QIV and QIV-X on my single engine application after having run a stock bravo one. The QIV was a full 5 mph slower than the Bravo, and I experienced all the same ride characteristics that you've described - the boat was glued to the water. Went with the QIV-X on the rec. of Hydromotive. It is much more of a bow-lifting prop. Worked better, but still 2 mph slower at all rpms than the Bravo One. On top of that, I don't think the hydros are great candidates for labbing, since the blades are already pretty thin. So, when I take the Bravo and get it labbed, I'll end up a good 3-4 mph faster than the QIV-X. That said, the QIV-X might be worth a try, a fellow boater with a the same make of boat, only longer and heavier, picked up 2 mph over the Bravo One. You never want to leave the speed on the table so you might as well try it. Good luck.

Check your RPM's also when compairing the two. It has been my experiance that they do not measure pitch the same. Generally I go up in pitch when using Bravo's vs. Hydro's. Just my 2 cents....

My experience with the Hydro's versus the quicksilvers was a loss of 7 mph.

dblcheckmate,

You are absolutely right on the differences in pitch. The Bravo I are 1 inch less in pitch. Not all boats do well with the sternlifting propellers in which the Bravo I and Hydromotive X props work better as bow lifting propellers.

Rookie, Bravos will be better than the QIV but you may want to try a set of Rev4s. It has better bow lift than the Bravo 1 and ran looser and faster on my boat. By far the best 4 blade I have tried.
