Similar accident here yesterday.
A boat ran aground on a sand bar, two persons jumped out to help push it off, one person got their arm tangled in the prop (was still running and in gear). Rushed to hospital, arm amputated.

According to Orlando Regional Medical Center on Monday morning, Wakely is in critical condition after having her right arm and left thumb amputated.

According to Florida Fish and Wildlife, Wakely got out of the boat with a few of the people on board to push the boat out of a sandbar that the vessel got caught up in.

The boat was still in gear and, it appears, Wakely lost her footing and went into the propeller, losing her right arm and left thumb, as well as suffering a gash across her chest.

I have also seen little kids leaning over the front of open bows lately. WTF are these parents thinking? If a kid slips over the front you don't have time to kick it out of gear! It seems the water patrol would remind these dumbasses of this.

I have 5 kids, 11-15, this is heartbreaking. What ever happened to nobody in the water until the boats off?

I see kids hanging on the rails to cruisers all the time. I get the willies just thinking about it.

All the more reason to have factory installed propeller guards. To protect the stupid from themselves.
