Re: New to me Skater.
Thanks FRED!
The last of the order arrived yesturday. Maybe I shoudnt say last. I have most of the dash completed still waiting on the bluewater indicators. The helm is in place. Wiring is 90% complete on the dash side. After speaking with Peter at Skater I am going to modfy the cabin entrance. I will post some pictures. Gerry |

Fuel system.
Lets take a look at what they ran for turbines. I removed all the hoses. I see two returns one pickup. The -4 return will be pluged The 1/2 inch return will use. Electric Pump is huge and usable as well as the filter housing. I will leave the filter until I empty the tanks. Look like # 2 heating oil or deisel. |
Re: New to me Skater.

Lets take the pickups out and look at the inner dimensions.
They are 3/8 a little small for my comfort. |
Re: New to me Skater.

There is enough meet to go to 15/32 I feel better with this.
Slightly under a 1/2. The pickup tubes is not the problem its the nipple they used. Drill three times to enlarge it. here is before and after. |
Re: New to me Skater.
Planned fuel system will be #10 out of pump to fuel rail
back of fuel rail return regulator out to #8 return to tank fuel pressure gauges also. The pump is good for 260gph. Once I get the batteries hooked up I will turn the pumps on and time the amount of time it takes to fill a gallon container I like to see under 9 seconds. should be good for 1200 hp. Oh yeah the port looks like it is fill I think I will try to use it in my garage. I wonder how much they hold? Gerry |
Re: New to me Skater.
looks good gerry.......suprised those pic ups were that small..

You may want to check yours Tom.
The rigging on yours is class A! But better safe then sorry. With the kind of power your running you need all of 1/2 inch. Here is what I have done with the wiring. I realize it aint no bobby moore rig but it should work. Once completed I will tighten the wraps and add some ss cushion clamps. |

Here is the ruff cut to the cabin entrance.
It was on your hands and knees before. Notice how the dash support works its way to the floor that was Pete,s determining factor it was structualy safe. The cut follows the 1/4 canopy. Now when the west system resin gets here I will finish it off. |

Here is the Battery boxes Trick marine got me
They fit perfect. Nice and simple. I chose to move the batteries forward. All of the wiring to the battery switches is complete. I was able to utilize the turbine cables. 0/2 big stuff. Ofcourse I got high on the Awlgrip applied first. :D |
Re: New to me Skater.

The west system arrived and I sealed off the cabin entrance cut. Ready for one more coat of Awlgrip and it should be fine.
My plans for the cabin will be two forward hatches and a queen size bed with sink and John. |

Fuel lines installed.
Waiting for new filters 260 gallons of #2 heating oil is now in the house. That was left in the tanks. |

Heres the new waterpickups from Skater.
They are adjustable in height. If ya got to much water pressure at 200mph ya just loosen it and raise it. The bottom of the hull must be modified to use them ( a V shaped Cut) I will post pictures when I hack that up. |

Way back in 1996 when this boat was born it had some kind of pickups you could just about see the holes.
(Turbines didnt use them) So I whipped out the milwaukee with a two inch hole saw and Drilled right through it. almost three inches thick. |

The transom is nice and dry inside so lets keep it
that way. Throw some of this goup on there to seal it off. Great stuff when ya mix it with the 406 its gets nice and thick. |

Great news. I keep banging my head on the gimbal studs while working on these water pickups. The Skegs should be easier on the noggin. Is it beer thirty yet? |
Re: New to me Skater.
Thanks for sharing your progress on the Skater, Gerry! Looks like things are coming along nicely... keep up the great work (& pics)!

Re: New to me Skater.
Gerry, I am dusting off my credit card for a fuel dock near you for a ride this summer. The girl friend wants to go to Manhatten for a long weekend and hang out at all the shiek places. It will be cheaper to fill your boat with fuel than let her go shopping. :D
If you are heading down this way give me a holler. |
Re: New to me Skater.
Looks like you're making progress Gerry. Keep the photos coming!

Here is the massive oil coolers I will run.
I feel the older Gil (savage) oil coolers were enough on the old engines that were in the Hustler ,But most likely will not cut it in the big dinasaur. I will run a 215 degree oil Tstat to keep it right above the boiling point of water. These are going in the outside gunnels in the drive line bays. with the Marine machine Strainers so they will be somewhat hidden. |
Re: New to me Skater.

Here is the installation of the strainers and the
oil coolers you can just about see the coolers under the strainer. Now when Trick Marine sends me the oil t-stats. I will squeeze them in there aswell. |
Re: New to me Skater.
Yo G, got the shizzle you ordered last Thurs. Hows your flu?

Whaz UP? Pete I took your advice on the coolers. Glad yourmaking progress. I pick up the drive shafts in the am. I told him they were for a race boat he said he just sent some to Outerlimits. Good to know he,s done this before. He added a 4 inch slip shaft. Just in case I gotta run crash boxes. Pete can you leave me one bolt hole each side of the trannys? Preferably the lowers. Can you use one of the uppers holes for the t-stat mount? I am adding a third mount. I would like to support it there. Gerry |
Re: New to me Skater.
Good idea to add mount, it will save your bells. No problem G, I'll leave all 4 mount holes for u.

Just got these today! Great Service He told me he did the shafts on the Outerlimits XXX boat.
I had them install a slip shaft to allow to vary in lenth from 23 inches to 27 inches. The actual measurement from #6 flange to Trans Flange is 24.5 The center CV is what they used coming out of the crashboxes on the Turbines. Next is some type of drive shaft Cover/ Protection. If it snaps it would be bad. |

Custom paint valve covers and bell housings.
Long blocks are complete and awaiting the TD Shaft rockers. While keeping busy I have got the cabin almost complete there will be twin beds and a head. The beds run with wise so they are seperated by the bulkheads. I used Balsa coring for the beds to keep the weight down. If I had to guess I would say I added maybe 100 to 150 lbs to it. Randy at Stellings is making the 5 inch tails hopefully they will be here soon. Out of all the Skaters I have seen pictures of the only one that appears to have the same stringer arrangement in the engine bay is CATORGORY5. The engine rails and drive mounts are offset by 2 inches. Engines being wider. The engines will be 1.5 inches lower then the drives. This will give compound bends to the tailpipes. Gerry |
