My new 2007 30 SKater

Started out with 3 blades, but now I got two.
It was so nice after church last Sunday, My 11 year old son and a friend of mine, went out for an afternoon of boating. After a very enjoyable time, and on the way back to the house, 1-2 miles out from the mouth of the river, we picked up a huge, and sudden vibration, and lost 10mph almost instantly from the mid-high 60s we were doing. At this point we were done. This area of Charlotte harbor is 10-11 feet deep, and we pass through this area every we take one of the boats out.
What you are looking at, is a Mercury Racing, 3 blade cleaver, 15x32LH, double lab, prop from the STBD side of my 2007 30 Skater.
This prop is part of a pair that was purchased Sept 10, while the boat was at TNT for the most recent set of setup and dial-in changes. I got the boat back Sept 28, and have put 14.5 hours on the boat and props since then.

Yeah I had this happen to me too. I talked to a few people and they said that if I ran a high X dimension and Labbed props I would only get 20 to 30 hours out of a set of props. So when my starboard side lost a blade I went back to non-labbed props and have not had a probelm. I also run my x-dimension a little more conservative now too.
Hope this helps

Glad to see mercury replacing your prop.

Have you checked the toe in, toe out of the motors? I lost three props, if they are not within 1/16. Keep the gear cases running true. I have had zero failures with double labbed 14.5 X 32's on my 32 with 300 X motors.

Got the new prop.
Expect to see the water later this week, just in time for the weekend festivities.
Hoping to get my wife on the boat this weekend, if fact, of my last 6 boats, she has only been in 1, the OuterLimts, a long time ago, in a place far away.

Yesterday was such a nice day, I left work early, about 11:00am, put the new prop on, ramped the boat back into the water, and off we went. We wound up beaching the boat at Cayo Costa island, and enjoying the afternoon.
Total round trip 62 miles, fuel burned 26.2gal, that’s 2.36mpg which is a little low for my boat.
When I was really on it, on the way back, I had about 50 gallons of fuel more than normal, and I never let it wind out due to other boats fishing in the area, a large flock of pelicans and running out of room. The smartcraft showed max rpm at 5520/5590 a max of 98.7mph, which calculated to 5.01% slip. Way higher than any preivious run.
Next time I take the boat out I will have to do some detail data collection and performance testing to see what is going on, it anything.
Here are some pics:

My wife wasn't very happy w/ the skater until I let her drive while I throttled. Now she absolutely loves going out on the boat. The best part is she refuses to let people pass us.

The 300XS do not have enough torque to turn that much prop at rpm.
The lower would seem to be a weak link in that scenario.
Peter recommends the 3 blade cleaver for this application
