I'd be glad to bring down some of my 4 blade stuff and run your boat with you sometime if you would like. My boat is comming back from Skater on Friday.

After running three, four and five blade props i dont think i would ever go back to straight 3 blades. Four and five blade props are not only better balanced and therefore kinder on your gearboxes then 3b blades, there are also more efficient with less slip. In my experience they give better acceleration and top end then the equivalent 3 blade. We have found the lowers on the 300xs very durable. We have just run a full season on them and have only done oil changes after each race with no problems.

It is all a matter of set up though, we prop our boat to run at about 6200 to 6300rpm and work on pitch and diameter to get there.
Speak to Matt and Julie at Throttle Up and i am sure they will point you in the right direction.
Congrats !!!! Thank you for sharing. I will definately be in touch with Julie !!

Great news on the lower!

Thank you for the information. I am presently looking to 4/5 blade props.

Ryan,

Thank you for such a generous offer. Right now I am buried here in the office. I will connect with you in a few weeks.

If you noticed my boat is presently all white. I had planned on calling you several weeks ago while I was waiting for my prop replacement, and the boat was on the trailer. I was just so busy, I never got to it. That’s another project I will need to speak to you about in several weeks.

Like we used to say in racing

Go fast, Go Safe, Go Skater

or is it

Go Skater, Go fast, Go Safe

Thank again.

Earlier my 11 year old and I lowered the Skater into the water, and took the 10 mile trip from the house to Fishermans Village, Punta Gorda to see the Nina.

This Niña appeared in one of director Ridley Scott's first films in the early 1990s, "1492." "Archaeology Magazine" called it the "most historically correct Columbus replica ever built." It was built entirely by hand without, of course, power tools of any kind; the craftsmanship of construction and the details in the rigging make it a truly fascinating look back. The "Niña" has been touring since 1992 as a sailing museum to educate and fascinate the public.

Below are 2 pictures.

A beautiful day of boating. Down Charlotte harbor, out to the Gulf, south to North Captiva Island, where hurricane Charley cut across, once joining the Gulf to Pine Island Sound.

I have had the 308 Skater just about a year now. Where did the time go?

I have 50-60 hours on the boat.

The pop up windscreen, really works well for front seat occupants. Cuts out the wind and associated noise. The back seat, well it like being in a hurricane.

Hull runs well in calm and rough water. Tracks like it is on rails, turns are amazing.

Could use more power (who couldn’t). Wish Merc Racing would do something like a 350hp or more, 2 stroke optimax, that would really bring the boat to life!

Conclusion:
Douglas Marine Skater quality design and materials in the hull
Merc Racing 2 year factory warranty on power
100+MPH and 2.4MPG

It does not get much better than that boys!
