That is so cool to hear.

What a great idea. I am going to have to try that.

Peter recommends the 3 blade cleaver for this application
Your #3 reason is all I would need !!!

I recently sold a 328 cob race skater that is now spirit of uae (post 346 in skater pics thread) and b4 selling it i tried many diff prop combos and it seems the 4 and 5 blade props accelerate much better carry the boat better and vibrate less you have to try them for yourself and see what you think . if you look at the guy that won over in qatar and the guy that won the championship in australia , they were both running throttle up props , and they said there was a significant gain over previous apps.

Very interesting. I would love to hear more info on the Throttle Ups 4 and 5B props on outboards. Sounds like they are having success.

I am the guy that has just won the Championship in Australia for the Stock outboard class. We run the Merc 300xs engines combined with the Throttle Up 5B props. Our boat is 30' long and we see race speeds in excess of 110mph combined with great acceleration so i know these engines have the torque to turn the 5 blades. It is all a matter of set up though, we prop our boat to run at about 6200 to 6300rpm and work on pitch and diameter to get there.
Speak to Matt and Julie at Throttle Up and i am sure they will point you in the right direction.

As an owner of a 2007 30 with 300xs I am suprised and pleased to hear that. How have you found the lower units to hold up with those props? Do you re-build them after every race, or are they stronger that we think?

Actaully 4 or 5 blade prop is BETTER for your gearcases than a 3 blade would be. They run much smoother and with the latest advancements have proven to be superior on and off the race course.

Ryan,

Yes, due to better harmonic frequencies generated by having more blades, which can reduce vibration and cause thrust to be transferred in to the water more smoothly. I knew that this would be a plus of having more blades but thought the added load caused by more blades on the lower internals, could be more of an issue, than it actually may wind being.

I just had a great conversation with Julie at Throttle Up.

It is amazing when you start to talk to the right people, how much good information you can get. Conversely bad information is propagated and passed around.

Thank for the info Ryan, you are certainly one of the few who know the 30/308 Skater and my setup well.
