Ok well, hows this, the first mate is on board and ready for the ramp
By the way, what do you guys think of me repowering my skater with the new 400's? I'm wondering about the resale market for my 280's and what would be involved in the changeover concerning the gauge package difference. Just kicking it around

David,
You will have to change complete gauge package, wire harness to dash including wiring for key switches, alarms ect. Also it would require special throttle box for DTS as the new verado is electric throttle and shift.
Some sort of custom steering tiebar packge etc.
It would be a fun project but a big one!!!!!
Not sure what the 280's are worth but I am sure the guys on S&F will buy them.

that's what I'm talking about!!!! love the look of the 4- 280's but your first mate is outshining them in this one!

Amazing....This thread is 91 pages long and still going strong - and relevant.

That is one spectacular Skater project to be proud of!

I'm sure clean 280s like yours would bring at least 10k each on scream and fly. If the new 400's weigh around the 650 mark then with 4 that's a lot of weight on the transom. I would think it would run almost as well and resale would be just as good with 3 400's. I't wont sound near as good as the 280's but I would think it would be a lot more reliable and better on fuel. I would think overall resale would be much better with more modern power. Either way you have an outboard lovers dream boat

Yes re-rig would be a major pain x4. I need to hear a good dose of reality.
There would have to be a big reward at the end of rainbow to make it worth while. It will exciting to see how they perform on nastybugs skater

If I went with the new verodos and kept the engine count at four I would have an extra 800-1000 lbs hanging off of my transom! Seriously something to think about.
I do love the sound of the 4 x 2.5's. The mixing of the oil not so much. also at idle the exhaust is a bit smoky especially when using my favorite for high rpm engine protection, Klotz R50.
I dont think that selling my 2.5's will be a problem either, one was a brand new 05 when I got it (20 hours now) and one has 2014 powerhead just installed last July (12 hours now). Another was a fresh Diamond rebuild last July (12 hours now) The last one is a jay smith racing powerhead (20 hours now)
Except for the 2005, the other three mid-sections were completely disassembled and bead blasted and powder-coated so they all look pretty clean too. Lowers were completly gone through by Collabela.

I do have some unfinished business though. When I set out, I had a goal of 120+. Some things have recently come to light that could possibly extend that.

I love that word resale value!!! If you went with 4 Verados you would be investing at least another $100,000.00 dollars by the time your done. Something to think about. That is why I love this hobby so much. We just keep spending money and helping the economy! LOL I would wait and see how Nasty's boat runs to get a gauge on real HP numbers vs weight of the motors before I would pull the trigger!

I also be if you went with quad 300x motors you would have the sound you are looking for plus a ton of speed!!!!!!

LAriverratt 01-23-2015 07:07 AM

how much re-rigging would that be?...I love spending other peoples money!:drink:

Double Rigged 01-23-2015 07:57 AM

Let's do some math for him!!!
3 times $27K per motor = $81k. Add 3ea new Dewald props $2500.00ea =$7500.00 Add 2ea new Vessel View 7"s $1500.00ea = $3000.00 New throttle and Shift estimate $3000.00 Steering tie bars and system Latham at least $10.000.00 Wiring and Misc $6000.00 Total so far $104,500.00
Plus Labor ?????
Total PRICELESS!!!!!!!
