28 skater windshield

How many of you guys with 28's interested in a Aeromarine windshield? Trying to get a mold done from them. They need a plug from Skater and if there is enough of a demand maybe Pete will give one up. I am in anyone else?

A boat ride without earplugs and overworked tear ducts? Count me in.

yup

Double Rigged 11-17-2011 06:11 AM

Trying to get some ammo to get Aero and Skater to build one. Do not have total cost from them yet but hope to put something together. We need Pete's help to provide a plug. I would like to see something really nice but that can be installed without any glass work. That is the goal.

KEVLARKAT32 11-17-2011 06:14 AM

Lower the seats , the boat is so clean looking with fairing . If you want a W/S buy a Sea -ray :drink:

Maritime_Eng 11-17-2011 07:05 AM

My Good of mine friend Shaun Torrente (STR) has bult a really cool removable windsheild for the 28 Skater. 3 allen bolts to install. Takes all of 5 minutes to install. The best thing about this design is that you can use you current cockpit cover. I have been in a boat with this deisgn and it really does work and you do not loose any speed. I will try and get a Picture or two ASAP.

That boat looks familiar:) Love the windshield, you can wear a hat and sunglasses,.... No more goggles!! You can actually talk, and hear the motors, not the wind. $400 Not 40k Aeromarine quoted me

ExtremeSkater 11-17-2011 09:44 AM

Subscribed. I might be in for one.

Double Rigged 11-17-2011 09:48 AM

Ryan, Thanks for the pics. I have seen some similar but I was looking for something more like they have on the 30's that would come down the side wrap around.

Baja555 11-17-2011 01:55 PM

the one spectre used was nice , only acpl inches high,. barely noticed it.. But I'd be in..

KEVLARKAT32 11-17-2011 01:55 PM

Why attach an ugly W/S ? If you hate the wind why not think out of the box and make a flip up deflector similar to what the 30 has . This way when you slow down they can be retracted and lay flush on inner dash and keep the great lines of the Skater instead of turning into a Bayliner

ExtremeSkater 11-17-2011 02:01 PM

UGLY???

I think they're ugly without the windshields! Which just goes to show, that its a matter of opinion. But, I will say, it depends on the style of the windshield.

I think someone manufacturing and producing a windshield for the 28's is long over due.

I hope to see something along these lines:

I had the flip deflectors on my 30, and as much as they helped, A LOT, it was still a beating. Also, keep in mind the rear passengers. I think a properly designed windhshield would help eliminate some of the abuse they take on.

I know you're a Skater guy, and seem to be a die hard, at that. Keep in mind, almost all the new Skaters coming out of the factory, have wrap around winshields.

That is a nice looking Skater. I believe that is the one for a guy that owned Jimmy John's subs. I agree with the right style it is long overdue. Not something that looks home made. The nice thing about Skaters are that they are custom and you rig it to your own taste.

I think all Skater with W/S are butt ugly , only Cat that got it correct is an MTI , now that is Bad !!!

Please post a few pics of a 28 with add-on W/S , cant wait to see how nice that looks . I have seen a Spectre in person with an add0on W/S , very low profile , looked wonderful bolted on outside of fairing , I walked away asking myself maybe the owner needs Glasses !! Look @ Franks 30 , now that is the way it should look .

The pic of the 30 Skater with W/S was from day one going to have W/S and not and after thought .

You are entitled to your opinion and can finish your boat anyway you want. Me personally I would not comment on someone elses taste even if I personally do not like it. Maybe you should get an MTI. By the way who said it was going to be a cheap bolt on.

KEVLARKAT32 11-17-2011 04:27 PM

Well how else would on attach a W/S other than use some sort of screws or maybe a frame ? Please post pics

Did you just get new cowls ? If so how much were they and how much heavier are they than the stock plastic cowls ?

Not sure how the windshield deal will turn out. If it cannot look factory I will not do it. I did get new cowlings 300x style to fit on the 300xs pan. They are lighter than the stock ones. Look great. Will post pics this weekend. May get them custom painted but want to test them first.
Dave Bush Racing is the sole distributor for them.

KEVLARKAT32 11-17-2011 05:56 PM

Nice ! Why is top secret what they cost ?

If they could be made to enhance the look, didn't look like an afterthought, and were effective and reasonably priced, I'd be interested.

Here is another 28 that those same morons attached a set of Finney's to the top of the deck. Ironically those very same morons originally built your boat.

Man this thread is getting ridiculous. All I was looking for was guys with a 28's that were interested in maybe putting a deal together for a WINDSHIED. NOT A WINDSCREEN, WIND FLAPS or any other home made device.

KEVLARKAT32 11-18-2011 07:39 PM

Sorry just showing options :drink:

DR... Sorry to muddy up your thread with a salty reply, but my point was that the factory... for the owner of a 28 who wanted protection from the wind... suggested, supplied, and would fit Finney's windflaps. Since that was the factory solution I bought a set, and upon opening the box I wasn't impressed enough to start drilling holes in my boat. Hence my interest in your project...

Speaking of windshields, here are a couple of pictures I saved of a 28 that was in the classifieds of either here or S&F recently. There was also a thread about the boat (no rubrail, triple 280's) that touched on making the windshield. The uprights were cast out of aluminum, I believe, and that alone had to be a huge project. There was a suggestion that he would make more, but then the thread faded away. After seeing it , I don't know if it appeals to my eye.

Peterbilt's post sums it up best for me... And I'll look forward to what you come up with.

ExtremeSkater 11-18-2011 10:42 PM

Too bad these threads get off topic so quickly.

Maybe the OP should have said something along the lines of:

This thread is for 28 Skater owners only.
Please only post if you are interested in a windshield.
If you don't have a 28, and you only want to post negative comments about windshields, please don't post.

Larry, You may think my cheap bolt on windshield is ugly, but its removable and keeps the wind out of your face/eyes.As without it ,you Have to wear goggles, and only hear wind,.................I prefer to see without goggles while running hard and Hear the motors:).My Skater is Not a Trailer Queen! I regularly cruise speeds over 90 & top out at 115.When you do that on a regular basis, then you can comment on others:lolhit:

Double Rigged 11-19-2011 05:58 AM

Thanks guys, I have seen that 28 also. Not real bad but not nice enough. I am sure it is functional though. Steve's comments are right on when you hard for long periods of time it is a nice thing to have. Would be nice to have a 28 thread only. I am not at all opposed to suggestions or what ideas others may have only can do without negative comments and sarcasm . I will keep workin on a solution. I am confident we can come up with one.

Double Rigged 11-19-2011 06:02 AM

Steve, just curious have you seen any change in top end speed with the wind screen on or off?

Here is another pic of 28 with W/S . Your taking me wrong and I know wind is a problem and while running I'm sure it works but the other 90 % of the time I would get sick looking @ it . If and when I decide to step back to 28 I would cut an 1/8 slot on top of fairing , design and engineer a retractable W/S so as soon as I come off plane it hides back under orig fairing . Yes some work but not rocket science.

Look @ this mess

ryder638 11-19-2011 08:47 AM

i would be interested in one. there is a guy by me who built one that only comes like 2" over and it works great just doesnt have the factory look that i need also. if you could put something together that would be great

No change in speed, it is only about 6" tall I have a clear and a smoke lense. Of course I would like to have a factory, looking windshield, but this was Best Bang for the Buck......save more for the eng. Mods and carbon fiber dash, gauges ect.

Larry, When you going to get that boat wet?

KEVLARKAT32 11-27-2011 07:59 AM

The engines are in my shop and I hired Freddie from Killer creations ( well known graphic artist ) to do artwork and then we clear it . the past two months were spent designing and engineering my own heads-up in dash unit similar to stainless marine but better in many ways and about half the cost . Sorry I missed your name ?

Larry

seems to be alot of 28 fans on here, anyone know where any of the older double canopy 28 race boats are at?
