While waiting for comments back from Mercury, I have done a little research. My filters are Racor 3120R-RAC which have .2 PSI pressure drop and 120GPH flow -pretty low drop and way more flow than an 300 needs. The Opti's have low pressure monitoring/warning built-in. Mercury is stating in what I can find on-line is "properly installed" filters are acceptable. 350 Verado literature allows external filters.

I ran my 300 pro maxes for 5 yrs no extra filers no aux, pump never had an issue it goes the same for my 300 x's
Just change water separator /filter every season ,

the K I S S process of thinking is just waaaayyyyy to simple for boats LOL.

actually I like simple but hey it takes all the fun out of trouble shooting LOL.

I like this some actual facts and research! Fuel filters have saved me twice once from bad fuel the other from a bad tank........

LAriverratt 03-04-2015 06:01 AM

no doubt skate.... the old canister style that were in the 28 worked when the tanks failed in it.... I will have them in the 308!!! that's a nice security blanket for sure!!

SS930 03-04-2015 07:16 AM

As long as large non-restrictive filters are used, I can't image them causing an issues. It's cheap insurance, especially on Skaters given the long history of tank issues.

LAriverratt 03-09-2015 04:01 PM

should be ready to start brake-in by the weekend!!!:evilb:

LAriverratt 03-11-2015 02:44 PM

motors done...test on Friday when/if weather will cooperate then break in as much as possible over the weekend!! :evilb:

Nice!!! Brand new Power!!! Enjoy!

Thanks for the info.

Flightplan 03-14-2015 09:02 PM

Did you get any hours on those powerheads?

Flightplan 03-15-2015 06:31 PM

Maybe we should send a search party in to the swamp for Craig...

LAriverratt 03-16-2015 06:09 AM

I did...broke them in over the weekend...I need to upgrade my vessel view. I have the first addition I believe. I need to get the next generation don't think the newest version is needed for now

I like your colors especially the green and the camo registration numbers. Your tow rig is pretty sweet too

LAriverratt 03-19-2015 06:31 AM

thanks david. the wrap turned out nice. I will say that paint is more forgiving at the dock and rafting up though, mine scuffs easily but the plus to it is you can fix a small area easily if you have some extra matching wrap.

bulletbob 03-19-2015 07:51 AM

Good to hear everything went well for you Craig.

Hey LA, Anymore speed updates yet. Steve.

nasty. lost an air compressor on the port weekend before last then ran out of gas on the starboard about a mile from home lol, but did get it fixed in time to run it a little good Friday. did not push it had the wife with me for the short run to propstop for their opening for our first worm bucket of the year...:food-smiley-009:... they feel strong though! I know I will not see the numbers that skate has seen with these merc cleavers it came with.

Nice to know I am not the only one that runs out gas! That is what we get trying to run light LOL. Was it a new compressor or the one from the old motor? If so do you have the upgraded ones? If not you should have them replace the other one as well.
Also should change the oil filters to them as well.

LAriverratt 04-06-2015 03:46 PM

it was the old one...well it had 75 hrs on it if that's old and yes upgraded. the other one has upgraded pump but a few less hours....and yes the filters were changed.

Nastybug 04-08-2015 05:35 PM

Hey LA, When do you anticipate getting some high end numbers on that sucker? What have you run so far with what props being used?

LAriverratt 04-09-2015 05:50 AM

I have run 96 with the 3 blade 32 cleavers with a littte over half tank of fuel, full oil resivoirs pretty decent stereo system and gear as well... low 90's is easy to get to! working on a trying a set of 4 blades now. very interested to see how yours runs!

96 with fuel wife and stereo sounds great right now I would just like to have a running boat!

bulletbob 04-09-2015 08:33 AM

The props are where it's at. I have run 92 mph with labbed 3 blade 15x30 Spinelli cleavers and 95 mph with 4 blade 15x30 (actually 29*) Ron Hill Hammerheads (Bravo style). The four blades are balanced better and provide alot of bow lift and less vibration, but, make the boat flighty (airtime), which I like. The 3 blade cleavers let the hull do what it is supposed to do. generate lift with the hull vs. props. BBlades has a 4 blade blaster that is around $800.00 a piece and has proven to be as fast if not faster on 24 Skater, 25 Motions with outboards. Enjoy Craig! She looks great.

nasty..the boat has not moved since our run to prop stop...weather and work (in that order) have kept me dry docked:crazy:

Nastybug 05-02-2015 09:03 PM

Anymore rides happen. testing and so forth. Steve.

LAriverratt 05-04-2015 11:30 AM

ran the boat late yesterday with three on board and very light on fuel ...actually ran the port out idling back by tinn lizzys....91mph is all I got out of it. not what I was expecting seeing as I did 96 with my old powerheads... same props, same load but better conditions... cooler air and less humidty (79 and 55% humidity) water was flat though... wtf?????

lol. maybe...HMMMM, there was a soft side cooler in the gunnel, not much beer left on sunday though: few left over miller lites in the frig from when flightplan was here, mysteriously out of limes too...:D....lv did you go? didn't see ya out there.

Double Rigged 05-05-2015 08:38 AM

Craig,
Are you saying it was cooler out when you ran the faster speeds with less humidty? What a surprise!
Guess there is something to say about where we all live and the speeds that are attainable.

LAriverratt 06-09-2015 06:03 PM

ok guys...ran the dewalds...slow out of the hole as I expected along with biting fairly good when did get on plane. not as good a # on top end as I wanted but mid range cruise was pretty ficken good compared to the 3 blades like em but more work to be done LOL
