Motivation: Here are some pics of how the ocean gets in S. FL in the summer time. Ran 80 miles round trip. 2.22mph!

LAriverratt 07-21-2014 10:49 AM

can the pisser be moved on the starboard to spray in so it can be seen like the port?

Taboma 07-21-2014 11:41 AM

Double Rigged, I was on the stock limiters. New props are Dewald CNC units, 14.75 x 34.5's.

Moving the pisser is a great idea, I've no idea why it would be an issue. Next question is can they be opened up like all the older motors or is the motor expecting that restriction to keep water pressure in the motor or compressor. If we could open it up there would be much less chance of a blockage occurring. I'd like to just let it flow straight from the hose and not have the restriction at all if possible. I've had to clean that nozzle out more than once while underway, not fun.

On my old 24 back in the day we extended the tattle tale hose to the middle of the tie bar and left it wide open. You could easily visualize water flow from both motors at a glance. I'm not sure about the restriction but I bet it's a non issue.

That's calmer than our lake!

NO you cannot open up the hole. Size was determined by Mercury to provide enough restriction on flow to cool the compressor at low RPM's. If you open it up it would work at fast speeds but overheat alarm at idle. I have confrimed that same idea with my guy at TNT. Already been tried according to Guy. I would think you could maybe change the orientation on the direction or remove and relocate it.

Okay guys.....is there anywhere I can just call and buy an interior for my 28? Two high backs for the front and the triple bench for the back....I can make the sides. Is there anywhere that can do that? Thanks in advance. ...

Larry,

call Fineline and PPI, they may already have templates for your interior:

Larry if that was a race boat and does not have a liner the stock pleasure boat back seat may not fit right. Also may depend how far forward you are going mount it. Front seats not as much of a problem. Mike at Fineline is a friend of mine. I can ask him what he thinks. He for sure can make front seats but they will not be cheap. He does very nice work.

Larry Gempp Jr. 07-21-2014 04:12 PM

It doesn't have a liner. I'm putting in the rear floor myself.

Onetime 07-21-2014 05:07 PM

When I was looking at that boat I was told it wasn't cost effective to put a liner in. If you put a floor in are you putting it on top of the factory race boat bracing? If so rear seat is gonna be high. Saw a 24 race hull that did it on top of the bracing and rear seat was definitely high.

Larry Gempp Jr. 07-22-2014 08:12 AM

No, I'm adding floor tabs to the sides of the tunnel....

Onetime 07-22-2014 11:21 AM

What do you mean? Are you removing all the race bracing on top of the tunnel?

Larry Gempp Jr. 07-22-2014 12:12 PM

Just the two outer stringers. Keeping the center stringer. The bulkheads behind the front seats and behind what will be the rear seats will stay in tact....

Who's Watching

I guess you never know who's watching. I was YouTube the other night and searched Skaters. Low and behold I see a video with description anyone know this boat Skater in Fort Lauderdale? Click on it and it is my boat coming in Port Everglades from last weekend. WTF?
Here is what they posted. Funny part was they called it a high speed pass.

you had to be doing at least 100 :lolhit:

boat looks well balanced the way it runs through the rollers.

noticed this video after yours was done...I looked at the blue 24 and contemplated getting it when it was not quite finished...after it sold and hearing what it needed to be "finished" I'm glad I didn't :party-smiley-004:

Same here. I considered the blue 24 also but thought it was too much for a 24 hull and trailer only. Glad I didn't buy it because of all the work needed to correct things. Even though it was advertised as perfect condition.

Zero Patience 07-24-2014 03:37 PM

It's a beautiful ride now.

That is the best looking 24 I've ever seen. I thought about it too. What was wrong with it? I thought it was ready for some motors.

Onetime 07-24-2014 04:40 PM

When I was at Skater it came up and they were amazed at work that needed to be done. I think it was redoing a lot of repairs and more that needed to be done.
The owner seemed to accept it all and really loves his boat. At least that's what I get from reading his posts on Scream and Fly. He is Rum Runner.

Double Rigged 07-24-2014 08:01 PM

Boat is from Miami. Justin had STR build him some 15" STR 300xs's. He had the mids cut and welded. There is a whole thread on SF. Also another 24 down here with Diamond 280's on it. Not sure why those guys never come on this site.

Skate,
Your boat looks great! Need some Nass cowlings to finish it off! Jimmy's 28 is nice also first pic we have seen of the interior. See you can get a few more of the inside and dash.
Have fun be safe

24's and 28's at LOTO

I've only been able to catch bits and pieces of the LOTO ustream but at this point i believe Tom Kennedy's 24' skater is showing the 28's how its done with 121 mph, the 2 28's i saw run were 118 and 119 mph. hope tomorrow is cooler and brings those speeds up

I think the Wallace's brothers boat from Long Island finally went 120 late yesterday. Record is still owned by Skater Jim at over 123.
