They need A LOT better steering and I mean A LOT
I didn't notice that. yea think so too! |
I just received my new Mercury 2-stroke oil (92-8m0078011) to replace the DFI oil I am currently using in my 300xs's. Is there a compatibility issue with switching to the new oil? Can I just add the new oil to the tank without cleaning out the oil system?
|
You should be fine mixing them, but if it were mine I might run the old stuff down somewhat before adding the new.
|
The new racing red oil, burns very clean, there is not any black oil deposits on the cleaver prop blades at the end of the day. You can add it to a tank with DFI in it. Do like SS930 says.

You can find it online "Cheap Mercury Parts" about $42.50/ Gallon, with three gallons minimum.
|
Also need to make sure you all are using the new mercury racing gear lube also. It is yellow/clear in color. I have been running it for months now. Good Stuff.
I will check with my source down here and see what they charge for the racing 2 stroke oil. I am not sure what I am paying/??? LOL |
Wow $42 a gallon seems really high it had better be the $h1t at that price. What's supposed to be new and improved about it? Has Mercury finally built its own refinery?

LA are you sure that is the new stuff? That seems like a good deal. The new oil is all synthetic.

its $42 at the parts desk but 21 to 23.99 on the shelves...:drink: |
I have been running Sierra gear lube for 10+ tears without any problems. With 260s' I changed the lube after every run turning 7k rpms +. Now with the 225s' I can extend the lube changes to every 5th time out turning 6900 rpm infrequently. I quit buying Mercury synthetic and went to Pennzoil synthetic and haven't even fouled a plug in three years with the promaxes. If it says Merc I run from it. my .02 cents.

Not a Skater but a cool video of how a cat should run. Boat was balanced and fast. You can see the boats that were light in the bow. Need something for this thread! Boat was the Hulk 32' Doug Wright.

AWESOME VID. Thanks for posting

Awesome Vid, Thanks DR :ernaehrung004:

Here is the another one from the same race lookng at the lower unit and prop!

That one is even better! Really shows the abuse the lower unit and the prop goes through. Do you know what props they're running?
|
That second one is the shot I wanted with the Spectre but never got around to getting. Would have been even cooler in bigger water. Thanks for sharing

I'd bet on herring 5 or 6 blade or dewalds. |
hering, 5 blade with hub.

Octane Boost
How many of you guys run ethynol free fuel? We can only get rec 90 down here. I have been running ACES IV with my motors and it has been good but took a look at the new octane boost from Boostane. Ordered a case to try it. Looks like one quart for 25 gallons raises it from 90 to 94. Will let you know how it works. Also has additives for water etc.
|
Wish I could run ethanol free. Nearly impossible to find in California other then race gas. Just had my tanks redone because of it.
|
Double Rigged. I am a former Porsche and motorcycle racer and have investigated a lot of the claimed octane boosters. None, in my opinion really do any real raising octane. If you read the Boostane documentation carefully (and others similarly) you may see that the claimed "points" gain is .1 per unit, not 1.0! So one quart per 25 gallons raises octane 90.0 to 90.4. Just what I found out. ACESIV, from talking to the inventor, helps with upper cylinder lubrication, mostly. Probably a good idea, and DBR recommends it. I think with all their dyno time on 300XS's they know a bit about the good and not so good stuff. Just my opinions. David

Over Temp Alarm
Hey for you guys with the 300xs's I had a problem this weekend with overtemp alarm. Temp on the gauges were good. If you do not know there is a temp sensor on the compressor. I ran through some shallow water and the sand I sucked up plugged up the pee tube. The water that cools the compressor runs thru the compressor and out through the hole. If it gets plugged the compressor will overheat. Luckily I keep a small pick in my took kit to clean it out. Problem solved. The sand went right through the strainer on the exhaust plate.
|
Good catch. Probably saved your compressor. Pretty common for clogging like that. Pays to listen to those warning horns, they're going off for a reason.

good run!! what size props?
got the 30 all ready to put in yesterday. Wife and I were going to run to our favorite watering hole visit with the owners then go anchor out in the lake for some R&R...after backing down the launch, cranking and idling the engines the port throttle would not move so hauled it back to the house to figure out what was wrong. figured it was frozen up cable but it had given me no signs of that before... ended up pulling the cowl off and found the linkage arm had come loos and jammed...was a quick fix but think it was a sign not to go out. pretty hefty storms kicked up on the lake so we just turned on the music and did the R&R at the house. |
I had a plastic piece on the linkage the moves the throttle body break and allow the plate not to open. Engine idled great but that was it. Broke when I was running 95mph and the boat hooked to the left. Ended up replacing them both. My Mercury guy says they have seen them break.
LA need to get that thing in the water. Summer will be over soon! |
