Larry, any updates? :)

Larry Gempp Jr. 12-10-2014 09:50 PM

She's getting a face-lift fella's. There were a few patches we found after removing the paint. Everything is being cut out and replaced as it should. Hopeing to be in paint by the end of the month....A special thanks to Contour Fiberglass for going the extra distance on her. I'll keep ya guys posted.

Lake rat Skater 12-11-2014 06:42 AM

Nice project, are you going to continue to run the 280s?

Larry Gempp Jr. 12-11-2014 09:41 AM

Yes, both have already been completely rebuilt. Not happy with the other engine options available right now.

Rik 12-11-2014 11:55 AM

Looks like now is a good time to add a windshield

COOPS 03-14-2015 07:24 PM

Just saw this boat yesterday at my brother in-laws shop. Contour Fiberglass in Spring Grove. He had a few other cat type projects he was working on. Glad to see you saving it.

Larry Gempp Jr. 03-15-2015 05:52 PM

James is your brother in law? Aww man sorry to hear that! Lol just kidding. Hes chipping away at it. The tanks are being built in Lake Havasu as we speak. He's also working on my other boat. Should be a great summer.

Onetime 03-15-2015 07:09 PM

What are you doing with tanks when you say they are being built in Lake Havasu

COOPS 03-15-2015 07:13 PM

Yeah he seems to get "involved" with every boat I have. I don't know if by choice or knowing that I have to live with his sister. Maybe he feels sorry for me!

I'm sure it will turn out great. When he told me the name of the boat figured I would do some searching. Before I found your post I told him he should get your ok and make the thread on the work.

Larry Gempp Jr. 03-15-2015 10:18 PM

"Tank It" is making a set of aluminum tanks for me and my buddy's 28 skater. There is no way I'm going through what I did to fix the original tanks again. It's the best $1200 spent on the boat hands down.....There baffled too.

Sounds like a great option. My 28s at Skater now having a small leak fixed on each tank. Didn't know about the tank it aluminum option. I put bladders in my 46 and they have worked great. By the way I raced against the mobile one boat in 1994 stock class. Lee Aerospace S77. Lot of fun and great memories :)

Larry Gempp Jr. 03-16-2015 10:24 PM

Yes Jim. I think this is the way to go in the long run. I love the history of this boat. Makes me feel more and more that it needs this restoration. I met you down at LOTO shootout 2012 Jim. I was down there with Brad Zastrow. Hope to see ya this year. ;-) And again, beautiful 28 you have......

Thank you and congrats on getting a cool 28!!! Look forward to seeing it when it's done! :) if you see me somewhere come up and say hello and I'll take you for a ride in mine. Just a little 28 fix until yours is done.

Flightplan 12-09-2015 09:00 PM

Larry Gempp Jr. 12-10-2015 08:34 PM

Well it took over two years, but the new "blank slate" mobile one skater is done with its glass and gelcoat work....Sitting on a new aluminum trailer. I will say it was worth the wait, cause its beautiful. Hopefully the rigging won't take another two. Lol

larry,,,,,do u still have then tabs u took off

Larry Gempp Jr. 02-15-2017 08:55 PM

Yes I still have them. They are not your average K Planes. They are composit with carbon fiber inserts. I've never seen any other like it. Maybe Double Rigged could tell you more about them. I had to cut the trim tab indicator lines in order to remove them. I have the rams and pumps for it also, not sure on the through hull fittings, i may. They all could you a good cleaning. I can get some pictures this weekend....

On a separate note, those of you mentioned Paul's motors. Do you guys have any pictures of the Nordic they came off of? I'd like to see the paint scheme......

Larry
