Default Mobile1 28 Skater

Does anyone have any pictures or info on race history of the 94' 28 Skater that ran as the Mobile1 boat, later known as Secret Agent? Thanks in advance,

Larry

Yes not sure how the boat changed but I was the one who originally rigged the boat and as 2 others for the owner who is a friend of mine. Not sure what happened to it after he sold it. Was the best running 28 skater of its day.

I got it....just trying to find out some of the race history on it. I'm doing the tanks right now...On one side the balsa core was all saturated with fuel, the other not so bad.

I looked at that boat last year. Did you buy it from Pete near Rochester, NY? Did he come down in price? I loved the boat, big project, just couldn't make the numbers work.

I believe Paul Whittier bought it in 1996 and made it Secret Agent. Paul had Pete at Skater build him a 28 canopied race hull and campaigned it in 1995. After continually getting beat by Mobil 1 he talked Bob into selling to him. A friend of mine drove it with Paul during one race out west and he said the boat was just the fastest 28 in the race. Could easily reel in any of the other 28's at will.
Don't know who bought it after Paul. Pete said he bought it at a bank auction.
Here's a video of it running after Paul sold it

Keep us posted on your progress. What are your plans for it?

I'm happy with what I got it for. The 28's aren't getting any cheaper it seems. I'm okay doing the restoration cause I can do it exactly how I want it. I'm fixing the tank areas then putting in removable ones and converting to left hand steer for this year. Over the winter I'll do an overhaul and convert to a pleasure boat with a full interior and see how busy Mitcher T is....

I was talking to Pete at Skater about this boat and it's performance. All we could both come up with is some are just faster then others. You build two engines identical and one makes more power then the other. Same kind of thing.

It was a race only boat so lighter then a recreational or race/pleasure. Also no canopies as most race only hulls have so lighter then most race only boats.

I could tell you guys but I was sworn in under oath not to share any vital information. LOL I will tell you this there are a lot of things more than just the boat. We kick the crap out of some of the best Mercury backed teams out there with 2.5 carb motors. It is all about the set up!!!!
