Thats the water I wait for all year. It's a blast to run in if your properly dressed.

Went to keys today to run boat. Had one of the worst boating days ever.
Started out with 1-2' waves due to wind. Port motor has a mass airflow sensor fail. Got TPI switch alarms at WOT on both motors. After prop change 25 miles from boat ramp running back broke fwd clutch dogs port motor. Boat does not plane on one motor with cleaver props. Found reverse gear ok. Idle for hour and found sand bar. Install right hand prop on LH rotation. Put motor in reverse and use it to get on plane. After running 40mph on one engine 6miles from ramp run stbd tank (good motor) out of gas.
Idle with port motor 20 gallons left in reverse with R/H prop to ramp. Got boat on trailer around 6:00pm.
Repairs/gear case swap tomorrow. HP Boating at its best!!!
I love this sport.

Sorry for the bad luck, it could happen to any of us. You will get it sorted out.

I hear ya buddy. No pain no gain as they say! I have blown up my share of XS powerheads as well as welll as lower units too. I have to say though the motors pull very strong looking forwad to getting it back on the water. I can tell you this guys I am buying a set of small 25 pitch round ear props and mounting them up front for when you go on those long runs. I will also say the motors are like I expected fuel hungry especially with the hgher RPM's.

Wow Ron! Tuff day at least! Hope the kids were not around. My mouth would have spewing four letter words equal to the rooster tail from those "X's". Keep up the good work. I know you will work in out. Bring your boat to "God's country" and rid yourself of all that pain. LOL, David

I was lucky no wife or kids! Just me and my buddy Tom. All in all the motors are great. I am just going to go ahead and replace both MAP sensors and possibly the TPI's if we do not find anything on the computer when we check it out. I did see in the Mercury service manual that with the faults I was getting the motors were cut back by gaurdian mode to 80 percent. If what we experienced is with 80 percent than you XS guys better watch out! LOL
As for the gearcase oh well its not like they dont blow up.
