I've got the solution to this boat's needs.. Doesn't have a thing to do with outboards though.. It would be a Dramatically better boat

I heard 400xs, 2 stroke. As soon as they are released ill have to get a 30 or 32 widebody to try them on. I'm guessing 120.

We wish. With all the emissions it would have to be a V8 opti!
You can do the same with a 300x now. why wait!

nasty...I was just joking with skate30 LOL hope ya'll know that LOL. the market for High hp light weight outboards is very small so merc is going where the $$$$ is and restricted by the feds regulations on top of that...we are pretty well stuck for the time being I suppose

From what I know which is very little in my experiences in playing with the Opti's there is no way at this time you can 400hp out of that motor without some serious work and someone to do it. DBR was talking about it but nothing has come of it in recent times.
You can get 400hp or so out of the X Block with port work, crank, pistons, heads, big bore kit etc. I can tell you this. Get ready to spend big $$$ to do it right.
Fullers Marine or Hydratech offer programs for those motors. Keep in mind that with the OPTI the compressor eats about 20hp right off the top.
It will be interesting to see what happens with the new ETEC as they say the new 300 will be over 300hp similiar to the x motors.

From what I have seen the hot package that would get you close to this range would be a 300x with a 3.2 stroker crank, some porting work is needed to take advantage of increased stroke, top it off with a big bore throttle body, light weight flywheel, and a reprogrammed ECU and you should be able to make some pretty good power. Now as far as reliability I'm sure it won't be as bullet proof as a stock motor but I would think that if you kept up with maintenance and took care of them they would be fine....for a few years
