Spectre Man post from 2004 from the thread "Skater Video" page 7 has a picture of the 28 that blew over.
You people obviously did not read my previous post on this subject. The 28' Skater with those heavy 300s is geometrically out of balance and is capable of flipping at 70mph when you hit a boat wake from behind. The nose starts going up and keeps going. The next thing you know, you are over.... and it happens in a split second. The 28' is more stable with the lighter 2.5s with bass mid-sections and even more stable with 15" midsections. With the 300s with 20" midsections and running in the upper teens in calm sticky water, the boat hunts for air and gets very squeemish. Anybody that's says different has obviously not driven a 28' at speed in calm water. Running a 28' in 2-3 chop is no problem. It loves that kind of water and can do that all day long. Coming up from behind a boat and then jumping its wake is totally another story! I know, I flipped my 28' and I am an expert Skater pilot.[/QUOTE]

Unfortunately Spectre Man hasn't been on OSO since 2013. I sent him a pm anyways. It would be nice to get the whole story from the original owner. I also left a message with Peter at Double R Performance to see if he was aware of any damage history in the past. I would hate for someone to buy it, to only find this out after the sale.
Update: Spectre Man did confirm via pm that it is his boat but didn't elaborate on the blow over.

So Ron,
160lbs in the bow, jack plates adjusted, moving seat up 3'.....all this is good to help balance the boat right?
I have no interest in a blow over at 70mph.
My 40 flies flat because it is set perfectly. We've been in some pretty nasty stuff and it just doesn't get flighty or nose high.
I have these in my home gym and thought about carrying 50s, 40s, and 30s, in the boat to adjust for passengers, fuel, and water.

I'll leave the 160lbs up front at all times but move around the sand bells based on the above factors.
Crazy?

If you're concerned about balance and want to add weight to the front as needed, why not install a ballast tank? At least that way you can add and subtract weight as needed, rather than carrying around all that weight all the time and having to guess guess how much to add and where...

I have had a 1992 32' Skater with triple 2.5s and a 1997 28' Skater with Pro Max 300s. The 28' ran 115mph on the GPS on salt water and ran 112mph on fresh water. I flipped the boat when going over a wake on my lake a few years back and sold the boat. Like always, the factory didn't give a s*** that I got hurt and flipped the boat. The dealer wanted to fix the glass repairs and take me to the cleaners (which he did as usual). I have been racing tunnels since 1978, and I can tell you that a 28' Skater with 300s or the new style 2.5(s) is an unstable boat, because of the geometry. It is stern heavy and the lateral CG is too high. The 30' Spectre, although much slower (100mph on this lake) carries the engines reaonably well. If you can get a hold of the older style 2.5s with the bass mid-section (weight saving), the boat should run and become more stable.

I think all this post is doing is making some people worry !! This has to be a worst case scenario
Bad boat setup, big waves ,possible wind ,not knowing how to drive ,no throttle management!!!!
I would not worry People !! Just use your head

I'm with you....not worried, but I do want my boat's CG setup right. I bought some variable weight sandbells last night to throw around based on fuel on board, passengers, and water conditions. I'll figure it out.
I'm not really interested in ballast tanks at this point. Done spending money.....Time to enjoy.
Question - Has anyone heard of a 28 stuffing?

Personally, I think 300's are the way to go on any 24 or 28 Skater for their reliability. Moving the batteries forward should help with the CG. Just taking the race hatch off should make a big difference. It weighs quite a bit.
