Does anyone know of any project 28's or 30's that are ROUGH. Bad tanks, soft spots, damaged? Looking to get into a small OB cat to play around with and not drag the 388 every weekend. Don't want to spend a ton to get into one. There was one on CT that would have been perfect on S&F but it seems it sold.
My experience - even if someone gives you the hull.....you can't put on 300s, have it rigged, do some electronics, make sure the trailer is good, have nice interior for much under $100k if you want to "build" one. I'd bet even if you can do it all the work yourself, found some used 300s, you are still in it at $75k.
The blue one in the classifieds with 300s is a smokin' deal. It could be enjoyed for 2 years and still be worth $100k if you wanted to get rid of it.

I did a ton of research on that one (even as far as Skater factory) - pictures were reviewed by Pete.....It was a disaster and maybe unsalvageable. Thats when I looked into building a new one.

The boat with the damaged core (was in Connecticut) is not Red. It's Orange. His pictures made it look Red and in much better condition than it was. It was mostly referred to as the Harley Edition Skater(Skater never produced it as such). Orange with Black trim. It's hull number is DUX93429F297-2812
It sold for 28K. It had 300x motors, rebuilt with 150hrs on them.
I looked at it when it was for sale and walked away. Peter at Skater told me to expect a very costly repair and no way of knowing how much until they get into it and could access the damage. Honestly, the boat was severely neglected. The interior was trashed. Corrosion on everything. I have pictures in my albums on Scream and Fly under Sea2Jet if anyone is in for a good cry, LOL...
I'd say any 28 Skater with just a good hull and trailer, less motors is going to bring 40K-50K easily...
The triple for sale would be a costly conversion to twins. New gauges and panel, new controls in the pedestal, motors and rigging, etc. It would be nice to leave that one as is if you can live with the rebuilds and fuel consumption. 300x or 300xs's are the way to go on a 28 for everyday use, and hold their value best, IMO....

In retrospect that came out all wrong. I like women that can drive the truck, load the cat, ride the Harley etc. Tristan has that in spades and a great personality to boot.
