Who knows with Skater??????
I should have my part done in less than month depending on when i get the boat down here. Hoping to get it soon!!!!!! Want to have it in the water for summer....
Mids are being done now for the motors. Parts being ordered for rigging.

AZMIDLYF 03-21-2017 05:08 PM

Any changes in the build process or the hull from the originals?

Boat is gorgeous by the way!!

Double Rigged 03-22-2017 06:36 AM

Not on this one.
They are making some changes for the 400r boats.

TeamSaris 03-22-2017 06:46 AM

Beautiful!

precisiondetails 03-22-2017 09:30 AM

Can't wait to see a 28 with 400s. Saw that the 368 with ROS will be in the water very soon.

Taboma 03-24-2017 10:08 AM

Saw that the 368 did 115 MPH at 7000 RPM right out of the box....don't these 400's have a break-in period?

LAriverratt 03-24-2017 12:54 PM

yes...run em till they break :evilb:

AZMIDLYF 03-24-2017 01:20 PM

Being it's the ROS which is a race only motor I'm not sure they need much break in. Just a guess...:readinghelp:

My understanding is the power heads are the same as the consumer units. Any comment on break-in from current 400 owners?

AZMIDLYF 03-25-2017 12:57 PM

I thought the same about the power heads being similar but then you don't hear about XCAT boats needing a break in.

AZMIDLYF 03-25-2017 01:07 PM

Info on Verado break in:
For the first (2) hours of operation, run the engine at varied throttle settings up to 4500 RPM or 3/4-throttle. During this time, run the engine at wide open throttle for one minute every ten minutes. For the next (8) hours of operation, avoid continuous operation at wide open throttle for more than five minutes at a time. This can be found in page 54 of the Operator's Manual. Also, Mercury at the factory does NOT perform any kind of break-in procedures on their motors prior to shipment, and normally, boatbuilders and dealers do not either. Mercury techs do not hook computers up to Verados and break them in or "tune" them for two hour windows, and dealers are not required to run them for an additional period of time after that. Bottom line . . . it is up to the consumer to properly break in their motors. If a certain dealer chooses to put a couple of hours on the boat package prior to delivery, that is up to the dealer. It is not Mercury-mandated.

Update from Skater. Trailer in paint shooting to pick up boat in early April! :party-smiley-004:

AZMIDLYF 03-25-2017 02:10 PM

Any thoughts of the owner letting you run a build thread on here?

Double Rigged 03-25-2017 07:14 PM

We will be doing one for sure. That is sort of why i started this one.

Double Rigged 04-26-2017 01:16 PM

Just an update and teaser. Boat is on its way home to NC. Pictures to come as soon as Bob sends them!
Time to get ready to get to work!

Here are two new 300x's being unboxed and disassembled getting ready for the 15" mids arriving this week. If any of you guys need Brand New mids let me know.

Sorry for the orientation on the pics. Never can get this IPAD to post right🙃🙁

The new 15" mids that we acquired through Todd D are awesome. Based on his recommendation we had them painted via a 3 step process through a company in Cape Canavernal. Could not have asked for a nicer piece.
Assembly to start soon. Hopefully the bolt kits come soon.

Work continues on the mids. Not exactly a perfect fit. After cutting the tuners and starting to assemble some minor grinding to the casting had to be done to allow things to fit. Also found holes for attaching exhaust plate to mid not same depth as factory ones. Stock bolts were 1/8" too long.

New Latham wing plates, studs installed for lower units Still waiting on the yokes to arrive to be able to complete c clamps and install on transom. Mids ready to go. Time to cut shift shafts and have lower units modified.
Powerheads going on soon.
Boat heading to FL for rigging mid month if Bob does his part!!!!!!

Taboma 06-03-2017 06:33 PM

Look'n good Ron. Thanks for some "candy"! Skater thread has been dead. :party-smiley-004:

"Lookin Good"

That is going to be one ausome rig!!!

StrokerOMCSS 06-04-2017 09:30 PM

Hi everyone this is Strokeromcss (Johnny Miles) i work with Todd D on the Mercury 3 Liter Mids. I do the Casting and the Machine work. I also send the mids. to Fla. to be painted and those guys do a great job and look Factory Good.

StrokerOMCSS 06-04-2017 09:53 PM

I would like to answer these questions.
1) We have a stock Turner ( Cut Down ) that we fit on every Mid. it does not come off the CNC untill the Turner fits. The Turners are also casting and do differ from each other we will try and make adjustments on this issue.
2) Not sure on same depth but all holes are decked and the under cut is the same depth for mounting bolts. There can be differences in Casting to the overall thickness but not for the mounting bolts. The under cut allows for the flat washer to sit flat to make sure the motor is bolted correct.
3) I am not sure why we still have the issue with the M8 bolts being to long. We have made adjustments at least twice to stop this problem but unfortunately it happened again. I can assure everyone this problem will never happen again because i am going to make sure the program runs the M8 Tap at least 1/2'" DEEPER. This is all done on a CNC Machine and should not happen.

StrokerOMCSS 06-04-2017 10:42 PM

Just for information, we send mostly all new hardware with each mid. this is what we upgrade on our hardware.
1) (2) Bolts we use a Stainless Steel 5/8 Bolt to be machined for the lower Yoke Studs into the Mid section and inset the bolt about 1/4" and we turn it to a M14 shoulder and thread for the Lower Yoke.
2) (6) Bolts we will use a Stainless Steel 5/8 Rod that bolts to the top of the mid. and machined down to a 3/8 Shoulder and 3/8 Thread that will mount the wing plate to the mid.
3) (4) M12 Bolt and a 1/4" inset these bolts are almost twice the length as stock bolts. These bolts are for the main gearcase bolts, and they have a shoulder for the gearcase, they have stock M12 thread for mounting the gearcase and use the stock Nuts.
This Upgrade Hardware can be done to a stock mid. it would have to be taken apart and shipped to us and we can make the changes and ship back.
Please get with Todd D and handle the details.
I would think everyone would agree that our hardware is a serious upgrade.

Double Rigged 06-05-2017 09:04 AM

Johnny,
Just to be clear we are very happy with the mids and cut our own tuners based on what Todd told us. This may be why there was a slight difference. Doing this for the first time is always a learning experience for us.
I believe Bob did receive some sort of bolt kit from you as well.
One other suggestion that would help in not holding up a swap over would be for you guys to have 15" shift shafts done that someone could swap out with a 20" and pay whatever you all feel would be a fair charge. These could be sold with the mids. As you know we cannot put the powerhead on until this is done also.

They finish work you guys recommended was awesome as well as very reasonable! The more of these that get done the better I am sure the product will be. Keep up the good work!

Thanks Ron

One mid on today and the other tomorrow. Powerheads Wednesday.
Check out the shine on the mid section! Reflection in paint is incredible.

Also like to thank Marty at Diamond Marine for getting us the parts for the clamp brackets. Great service as always.
