Motley Crue 368 Build
Fourms are still pretty dead.
Should we start a build thread for this one too? After a few year stint at some other shops she’s ended up here. Took us a year to get it into the schedule but full pleasure conversion is booked. https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...c4db9748c.jpeg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...ef47f5bf0.jpeg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...9a0a072cf.jpeg |

Hull sides stripped. Never seen it crack like this. The cracking was actually behind the cheese matt and under the filler. Usually it’s just the top primer layer cracking. More work than anticipating but got it smoothed out.
deleting escape hatch. Blank built vacuum bagged. Router’d to clearance flush through the floor area. Getting this installed this week. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...a96c050b3.jpeg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...e11f312cb.jpeg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...161eeef20.jpeg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...c73e0e8a1.jpeg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...c7946354c.jpeg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...0019a573f.jpeg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...41a591218.jpeg |

MAKE BIG BLOCKS GREAT AGAIN |
Sweet thread, thanks for sharing. That is some thick balsa coring on the deck, what is it 2 in thick? Are all the race boats that way?
|
Excited to see the progress!
|
Hullsides bodyworked. Stbd side had a lot of junk on It from years of racing. Ripped it all right down to glass. Epoxy fairing compound on the whole side. Fresh laminate on the deck to lock it down. Lots of heavy grind marks. Core exposed, and years of weather on the exposed laminate.
Put a heavy, thorough fresh scratch into the deck. Full cap. Closed a bunch of through holes. now we will have fresh glass to work out on. front seats bases built Receiver getting mounted next. few pics of our huge 46 build if anyone’s not following on our Facebook. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...17bc805cb.jpeg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...d9317d6b3.jpeg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...e7c448a8f.jpeg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...4163e9b4e.jpeg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...d393cbdec.jpeg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...f4e2a8c0f.jpeg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...ea7bb00f9.jpeg |
Love watching you guys work. I follow along on Facebook too. Keep sharing it’s awesome!
I always thought I would like to work on a project like this through you guys, but I don’t think I could handle the timeline and all the crazy things you guys find lol! |
Forgot to add, escape hatch delete all locked in.

Owner just wanted to fix the transom , and put a paint job on it. 2 years later, full structure. Full deck delete. Moved the bulkhead 4 times. Custom windscreen , 2 new tanks. New floors etc etc etc. it’s a full resto mod lol. 😆 it’s tough I’m not going to lie. |

it’s not for the faint of heart. Our lead times are getting better. But if you see that (unnamed) boat we’re doing the bottom on. That’s the issue. Boat comes in for a blue print. And we are taking a circular saw to the bottom and adding lifting strakes. Multiply that by the 15 projects we have year round. It’s frustrating. I envy these shops that get fresh new boats. Paint them and send them out the door.

Nice work, glad to see your accomplishments over the years. "Glass Phil"..... Working on a Magnum sport with direction of Glass Dave when i have time to get at it. After doing the work you get a understanding of why it costs as much as it does.

With the 368 pleasure conversion, will it be 6 or 8 seat? Maybe 8 isn’t possible. Look forward to that one!

Your doing some nice work, you’ve come a long way since that first Cigarette.
|
Subscribed... Deep dive projects for sure

Moved up to the front shop and off the trailer. Deck is post cured and peel ply removed. Now there’s no question on bonding abilities with the next layers of product.
time to fit the windshield and bustle. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...f10acba69.jpeg |
Nice! Also digging the Fountain.
|
Bustle blank built. Gruit a500 1.5” foam. Vacc’d down epoxy. Then we draped and weighted the panel with the resin still green over the boat to match and post cure the laminate to the contour of the deck to make fitting easier. Contour’s the core to match the roll of the deck to make seam as small as possible. Epoxy compound to fill the gap. Going to lock it down and rough in the sides before cutting the shape.
center of transom was all swollen from old holes that were deleted so we blew that out. Capping those up with 2 layers of 1700 to hold the swelling down. she’s moving along nice. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...c6b2e194c.jpeg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...6379f77a5.jpeg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...463bceb70.jpeg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...85431f81a.jpeg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...ceb5ff619.jpeg |
Anxious to see what shape you cut the bustle. Looking great!

Officially out of glass and into bodywork.
skinning the whole deck to chase the low spots. This deck was so hammered from one of the previous shops who stripped the deck. Going to sand 90% of it off. Boy do my knees hurt after today ! https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...d8e897572.jpeg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...a7bf0e984.jpeg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...094a40f33.jpeg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...10df261ef.jpeg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...9c8f6115a.jpeg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...ff3f781c7.jpeg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...405dd730c.jpeg |
