24' Skater with 6" set backs.
Well, long story so I'll try to keep it short. All testing was done with exactly the same conditions with the exception of 15 gallons more fuel with 6" set backs yesterday and today. Last time out(Thanks Giving) I didn't have my GPS so I was guessing on the speed.Speedo said 100 on the money. So yesterday I took it out for the 1st time with 6 inch set backs and had exact same speed results with a little less trim.Speedo read 100.When speedo reads 100 it's actualy 99.2 or 99.3.Pretty disappointed so I put it on the trailer and adjusted the motors up 1 and 1/4 inches on the plates.Which is a huge amount.Took it back out and saw 103mph!Now here is the bad news. The low water pick ups ran out of water so I had to adjust the motors back down 1/4",which resulted in a 1mph loss.Sooo the final result is 99.2 to 102mph.My GPS only reads 3 characters so I can read 99.2 or 99.9,but as soon ass it goes to triple digits like 102 I don't know if it's 102.4 or 102.9.I guess I'm happy, but I think if I spend more $ on water pick ups from the bottom of the boat. Then I can raise the motors up even higher.By the way this is with Merc 34" 4 blades at 6250rpm.I still think the boat needs bow lifting props so i don't have to trim it out so much to make it run.I say 105 or more is obtainable. What do you 24' owners run for props?I still get great acceleration with 34's.Thirty two inch props will accelerate like a drag boat but I'm afraid I might loose the triple digit number.Any pros out there with advise?

24' Skater, twin Merc 1997 225 promax, turning out,102.5 mph at 6250 rpm,no race hatch cover,150lbs of gear and stereo in the boat at the time of testing.I think the prop shafts are about 1.5" above the bottom, but I didn't have an acurate way to measure last time I was with the boat.I leave it in Havasu,270 miles away.

I am 1.5 above the bottom, turning 14.5x32 6500 with promax 200's. I have the stantard cmc jack plates. This set has been around 96MPH with three people in the boat. I've talkked to ALOT of people that know these boats and they all say go with the 14.5" three blades, have you tried these? At 1.5" above the bottom you should have plenty or H2O pressure with sportmaster gearcases. You are seeing very good speeds, I don't think I would put hull pickups on that boat it might slow it down. I think you are near the limit with that set up.

I know that there is at least 2mph more left.I need info on water pick ups at the bottom of the boat.Hell I think I could get 1mph just by taking all my **** out oif then boat like Horse shoes, anchor, etc. The only props I've tried are 34" 4 blade Merc props and 34" 3 blade Cleavers. It'''s too hard to find twin props that I can just borrow or test.I still thinfk a bow lifting prop is the wy to go unless i want to add more set back.

My experience tells me you will most likely lose speed with hull pickups. Money better spent having props tuned. I think you do not want a bow lifting prop on a 24 skater. Those hulls are very fast. They can bite. Ask Ryan B. What speed have you run with the 3 blades? they should be a little faster then the 4bls Be safe and good luck
