Default 28 Skater set up

Im looking at different set ups on used 28's and would like some info on motors. Which motors would be prefered? 2.5's or 300 ProMax's and what is the advantage or dissadvantage to either. Im really looking for something reliable and fast, that is what is steering me toward OB's.
'99 Promax 300's w/ Sportmasters
'00 2.5's w/ Sportmasters
'00 Promax 300's w/ Sportmaster

I understand the 300x's would be the ultimate set-up but Im looking at used boats and these are some of the set-ups in my range that I have found so far.
Thanks for the replies.

The 300's should act more like a "fishing engine" easy to shift, idle well, have more torque. The 2.5's will wind out a lot more rpm, and they will be real close in top end, the 300 should be a couple mph faster. I would go 300's, but these are all just my .02 Darren

Speed racer is a beautiful boat in need of some cover up paint. (like most of it with the exception of the "Speed Racer" and the action figures.I think the price is fair but not a steal however, if my AT was sold I might make an offer and see what happens.
Really just looking for info on the 300 Promax's, and later move to the 300x's in time.
