Who's your Daddy????
I thought some of you might be interested in the origin of some of the boats you now know as Sonics.
Below is a photo of a boat that I built as a 38 foot race boat and sold from my company banana boat co. Look closely at the design of the hull especially.
I also pulled 34 foot boats from the same mold and sold them as 33's.
After banana boat, this became Coyote and then Sonic....take this same boat and add on the swim platform etc and you have a Sonic 42.

Wow, you did a great job. Sonic to its credit has avoided step hulls. You must have known Jay Ross, terrific fellow, helped a lot when my boat was totally rebuilt.
I have hull #42 of the 1988 Sonic 30 SS.

Please!!!!!
Port Edgewood had nothing to do with this boat....all they ever did was screw up a great design.....we had an agreement with them to make the 24 foot banana and pay us a royalty.....they changed the layup schedule and the boats were very badly made...plus we never got the royalties due.
NO...don't ever associate us, with Port Edgewood!!!!

What years did you make them?

My son and I are reopening the boat co again after the first of the year, with 24's 28's and a 35 all made from the old Cigarette molds that Don Aronow sold me back inthe 70's.
Here is an old ad for our 33, which was actually a 34....we always tried to give the customer more than they paid for.

Besides the molds that Don sold to you, it is my understanding that you have the original lay up schedule in detail. Care to elaborate (not asking for any trade secrets, just interested in what really made those boats what we all talk about today.
Thanks in advance.

Thanks.
To answer some of your questions now:
The original layup was very strong, but Don used a mix of resins on the race boats and that made them stronger. We used that mix when we made our production and race banana boats, and will do the same with our new boats.
The 35 SS...I can't say for sure on what they did. Look over the photo and compare the hull with your boat. The boat was made so that the last 4 feet were perfectly straight so any length from 38 to 34 could come out of the same mold.....we of course shortened the bottom strake too.
We will make the whole line of boats again regardless of the success of the endurance run they are talking about. If that does happen, we will make a race version of our 35 Mistress that will look just like the photo below with the exception of a new race fairing will replace the old style windshield.
