Default sonic 38 or 42 vs baja 40 and formula 382

baja 40 triple 500 efi 76-78 mph
sonic 38 or 42 twin 500 efi don't know the speed
formula 382 twin 500 efi 75- 77 mph

speed is not the number 1 issue
cabin is important (able to stand)
gas: triple scares me a bit

on the other hand, would'nt a twin 500 at 45-50 mph, burn as much as a triple at the same speed?

I heard about 40 baja cracked on the bulkhead for unknown reason... true or false?

what is your opinion ?

thanks!

I dont think theres much head room in the Formula. Sounds like the Sonic would be a good choice for you or if you can find a 37 Outerlimits!

As far as the best cabin and creature comfort layouts, i think the form, baja are going to have a better set up then a sonic.. But the sonic is def the better looking boat out of the 3, then the form, next baja.. IMO

If you're looking for stand up head room the Sonic is definitely the best of the bunch. Steve

I've owned new Baja's and Sonic. There is NO comparison in quality. If you are boating Lake Ontario, you want a Sonic. I have never seen the cabin in a 40 Baja, but we are very happy with the cabin in my 386 Sonic.

Trips will use more gas than twins. I used to run with a 38 sonic with trips, he used a LOT more gas than I did, even cruising at the same speed. Althogh the top speed was pretty nice.

A buddy has a 42 Sonic with carb'ed 540's (est 600hp). 73 is all he can get out of it. The 38 and 42 Sonic have the same cabin and certainly taller than the 382.....however the 382 is the more "plush" of the 2. I have no idea what to expect from the 40 baja but I too would avoid triples (insurance is harder to get too)

Actually the 35 (2000 and up) and the 38 have the same cabin. The 42 and 45 also share the same cabin. All huge cabins. The only boat that has a bigger cabin is a Black Thunder. I agree the Formula may be a little more plush. I forgot the insurance issue with trips.
