How much should I pay

How much should I pay for a used 31 ss. I would like one with at least hp 500's and only a year or two old. I was going to buy a new boat but they are 175k and up. I wouldn't mind spending the money but if the value is going to drop to 125k as soon as I get it wet then I can't see spending the money.

Does anyone know why sonic has such a low resale value? I have been researching the boats for problems and such and I have not found any major problems. In fact the opposite seems to be true. That is why I am wondering about the rapid loss of value.

any help would be great

Thanks,

Aaron

"...sure my boat takes my money, but at least it doesn't b#tch.

Aaron,

It's not just Sonic...all makes depreciate, some more than others. As far as pricing a 500EFI is the package for ultimate performance vs cost of ownership. A 2002 appropriately equipped somewhere 140-150K go for what the market bears.

Want one that is truely different I have a couple with 575sci's that are in the price range you described above (170-180). Both are super fast and the 1st year depreciation is already done...if interested send me an email.

Dano

I know that they all depreciate but it seems that sonic's depreciate faster than others and I would like to know why.

I'm not real comfortable with any of the sc motors. I will sacrifice power for reliability any day. I run my boat at least 100 hrs per year. That doesn't sound like that much but I do it in a three month period. I have heard to many horor stories about maintenece and problems with the sc's.

Do you sugest the hp 500's or the 525's? I think the 496 HO's are a little to small.

I am interested in the 31's send me specs and prices to [email protected]

Aaron,
For reliability you can't beat the 500EFI's. The 525's also appear to be a good motor and most of the initial bugs seem to have been worked out. I don't understand the comment on depreciation being more on Sonic as opposed to others though. A lot of that is geographic and financial in nature and not endemic of one brand to another per se.

A friend of mine has a 2003 31ss with HP500's with trailer he might be interested in selling here soon. Great boat, I have many compliments for the 31. I'll try to get some pictures for you if interested.
