Redfish Island out of Kemah?
I keep hearing about this "Redfish Island" spot out in the Kemah area, but I don't have a clue where to go. Don't have a GPS either.
Anyone down here in the Clear Lake area care to enlighten me a bit?

i will try to get you some GPS numbers but if you leave kemah cut track east south east to the houston ship channel you will run into redfish island, some times at high tide theres not much there, its on the west side of the ship channel

head out of the kemah channel [boardwalk] straight out till you go past marker #7, then turn to 112 degrees on compass for 7.6 miles you will see redfish

There are 2 oil/gas rigs on about a 45 degree angle SE after coming out of the Kemah channel. Head for them staying to the west for about 7 miles. You want to come in from the west side, turn in when you see the back side of the island, not the ship channel side. Not sure where the shallows are on the ends of the island. It gives a protected horseshoe shaped area from the waves. Can be a good swimming and raft up area. Do you know how to get back into Nassau Bay? That is the best area to swim and raft up.

not being a smart @ss, but buy a chart. that way you'll understand the waters surrounding it. there are shallow spots and many oyster beds. also consider heading to top water grill for lunch. again, make sure you look at a chart. they are not marked channels.
better idea ---- solicit someone to follow out there that knows the area, or someone who can show you where to, and not to, be on the chart.
hope that helps,
joe
