Get on Google earth. You can map out the whole trip.

I posted a rough proposed run route on the TBF link, here's the image:

I think the intercoastal canal would be a lot safer and it is roughly 70 miles from Beaumont to the Casino.

I have never done the route, but if you start at the Beaumont Club and go south on the Neches River, you take a left and go east in front of Stewts Island, which is on Google Earth.

Going out in the Gulf may not be a good idea if someone breaks down.

Does anybody have any experience with the intercoastal route?

Definitely let's hear from people with experience. I just put that up as a rough idea of distance. If anyone has a Garmin route setup that'd be perfect.

I agree with "UrbanDisturbance" it will be safer for all if we go intercoastal and now we just need to recruit someone with experience....And let's make this thing happen!!!!

Captain YARRR 01-20-2015 01:52 PM

If it comes down to it I can plot a conservative route with Garmin Home Port but I'd rather a local do it.

How about instead of just "Casino Run" Why don't we call it "The Casino Fun Run" so it could be open to anyone or type of boat that would like to go and let's make it a big PARTY:ernaehrung004::-smiley-051::circle::party-smiley-048:

this is an inland route correct?
If so is there a route from clearlake? If not what about the boats leaving from clear lake?

Yes. Go to www.navionics.com and click on the WebApp menu bar at the top. You can see where the intercoastal canal is located, depths, etc. You can go all the way to Florida.
The charts on www.navionics.com show that the intercoastal is only 1 foot deep in some areas, but also reads over 11 feet in text. If you go to google earth you can see barges being pushed down the intercoastal canal. If you don't have a GPS Chart Plotter, it is time to get one. I use mine all the time.

UrbanDisturbance 01-21-2015 03:01 PM

I am planning on going to the Golden Nugget this Saturday by car. I am going to check out the marina, take some pictures and get information. I want to see 1st hand what I can expect. I don't know if I want to sleep on the boat or get a room. There is not much information on the internet except $100 per night for a slip for my boat size that is subject to change according to their web site. They measure your boat.

knottysmooches 01-21-2015 06:21 PM

I think this run is classed as a "fun run" . I have had positives feedback on us being able to keep up in our formula bow rider. I really hope we stay intercostal.

I will be leaving from Clearlake. I don't mind making contact with the casino and seeing if we can negotiate a rate for the hotel along with dockage. Let me know who is interested in a room.

Knotty,

Have you made contact with the Nugget? The Nugget has put on some events for me in LV for my old Unit in the Marine Corps / Harley get togethers, I know the VP of Gaming for all the Nuggets pretty well. He and I have discussed this, if you want to take it and run no problem. I just don't want to get the lines crossed on groups and people, it turns into a cluster if we don't have one POC...

Thanks,

John

I think both of you have the right idea about contacting the casino, so why don't we appoint one person who can get the best deal to make the contact and get the information on here so everyone that is interested can get there plans together and let's make this a "Great Fun Run" for all that plan to attend.

I agree. That is why I will step back for now. To many people calling and saying they are with this or that boat group the scheduling people always get it confused. LOL...

I'm looking forward to this should be fun.

It is only my opinion, but if you have a contact with the casino then maybe you should be the one negotiating the deal for us!

I went to the Golden Nugget and L'auberge this last weekend to find out more about the marinas. I took pictures and labeled them but I can't post them. I am not 100% happy. This is the deal.

L'auberge - No place to take a shower if you want to stay on your boat at night. You have to get a room which may be around $350 - $500 a night around April.
L'abuerge - Docking is $50 during the week and $100.00 on weekends. Length of boat does not matter. They do not charge by length. So you are looking to spend around $600/day max unless you want to stink becuase you don't have a shower if you sleep on your boat.
L'abuerge - If you pay docking fee, you get to use the pool which is a plus, but the Golden Nugget pool and beach is going to be a lot better in my opinion.
L'abuerge - A lot more room to park boats than the Golden Nugget. There are two places where you can start stacking up boats side by side if we needed to do that. If there were no boats at the marina, I think we can get 20+ boats in the marina. It think it is designed for 15 boats.

Golden Nugget - No place to take a shower if you want to stay on your boat at night. You have to get a room which is going to cost you big time on top of you dock fee.
Golden Nugget - I talked to two seperate people regarding docking fees. They have not determined the docking fee yet, but they said they are thinking of charging $25 - $35 per foot per day. OUCH! I'm not paying that........That's BS plus a room!!!!! That's $1330 for me to dock plus a $300 to $500 room. Only the super rich can pay that.
Golden Nugget - The pool is not open yet, but you don't have to have a room or boat slip to use it. There will be a seperate fee to use the pool if you are just visiting for the day. You will get a wrist band. The pool has a swim up bar and looks like something you would see at an all-inclusive resort. It's awesome. Also has a lazy river.
Golden Nugget - Marina is small the way it is designed. Around 11 boats, but I think you can sqeeze a few more boats in between...maybe 15 total.
Golden Nugget - Beach bar was being constructed......nice!

If the Golden Nugget does not have a reasonable dock rate and room rate combo, there is only one solution I can think of that will not cost you several $1000s.
That is to dock at L'auberge and get a room, take the shuttle to Golden Nugget, pay the pool fee, enjoy the pool, take the shuttle back to L'auberge, eat king crap legs at their buffet, gamble at L'auberge, spend the night and go home.

I'm sure the Golden Nugget will come up with something that is fair.

I have pictures!

knottysmooches 02-03-2015 03:56 PM

Lets hope that John can help out with his connection. This could be a good opportunity for the Golden Nugget to get some good advertising. I hope they can put together some better pricing.

I know it is still early, but just trying to get a idea of how many are planning on going? And in the count how many are planning on leaving from Clearlake/Galveston and how many from Beaumont?I think it would also be good to have a general idea of how many, because it could help in the negotions with the casino if we had a good number that we could tell them were coming and aproximatly how many were staying at the hotel. It might give us some leverage.

One 38 foot Cigarette Top Gun. My wife and I for sure. I have two other couples that said they want to go. I just need to talk them into it once we get pricing. So 3 rooms and one boat. 6 People. David & Christi, Shaun & Jackie, Andy and Cortney. We would be leaving from Beaumont. This is assuming the pool is open by that time. If the pool is not open, I'm not going.

I'll be spending most of my time at the swim up bar in the heated pool at the Golden Nugget.....or the bar on the beach. I'll gamble after dinner and will most likely not be needing too much more to drink by that time. You are right. A lot of bad reviews on gettting drinks at Golden Nugget and machines not paying out. That may have changed by now.

I have been friends with Gerry for 20yrs. He has done well and not bad for a Texas Tech Boy. LOL

Gerry has always treated me and my groups like ROCK Stars. If we can pull this off once maybe we can do it as an annul get together or some type of poker run ending at the Nugget...

Looking at a lot of reviews sounds like there some bumps, but that the run is still a good three to two months away. I am sure it will be a great time and looking forward to meeting everyone.

To keep everyone posted:

I am involved with a group of Offshore sports boats. ( www.offshoreonly.com )
There is a group of us, 5 to 10 boats (Still working on a hard number) that are getting a boat run together from Clear Lake / Beaumont to Lake Charles for a fun get together weekend in April. Everyone wants to go to the Nugget.
We have been looking at the marina, the cost per boat, and rooms, but can’t find anything online or published on rates.
Do you have any info or a POC we can contact for the information?
Thanks,
John

As soon as I hear anything I will post it here.
