Does anybody boat on Texoma anymore?
This used to be a lively forum for North Texas boaters. Now, 3 or 4 posts a year seems the norm. Surely some performance boats still live in the area. How do we get some interest and excitement back in local boating?
|
DFW boating - the silence is deafening. Many many boat owners but not sportboats. This use to be Baja country but currently is pontoon. wake boats and bass man on the small lakes in the area.
Texoma it use to be a good place for sportboats but seems to have died off with past droughts and last year extreme flooding. |
Yes, the droughts, flooding, and recovering (or not) economy have all served to dampen area boating. With that said, several "sport" boats live here in Fort Worth. These include at least one 36 Nor-Tech cat, an MTI, 45 Cig, 38 Sonic (Met Andy and Monica today) and several others. Why don't we Fort Worth locals try to establish a meet and greet on a local lake (EM, PK, Granbury, etc) one of these weekends to get acquainted and see if we cant start to get a little more excitement in the area. Anybody game?

Seems like the performance boats died a couple of years ago in the area. That's what happens in my opinion when the poker run weekends go away. Even if you don't run the event, the fact that it happens makes people want to have something fast to join in the rally. No reason to have it when there is nobody to run around with.
I plan to make Texoma later in the season when it cools off. I took 5 years off myself and just finished a much smaller project to get my fix for a while. I'd make a Texoma rally weekend if we can get it organized. |

There's usually 4-5 performance boats out on Lewisville each weekend. Not much distance to run, but you can get some nice chop to play in, and with the plethora of 45' to 60'+ cruisers out there, you can usually find some good wakes to play on. These were out Sunday, and that didn't include the 43' Scarab, the 43' Nor Tech or the 35' Cig that are usually out.

I am on lake Texoma nearly every weekend I know of a 36 Eliminator, 6 27 foot Eliminators, a 33 Eliminator, 1 Kachina, 1 Outer Limits, must be at least 20 Baja's, at least 15 Fountains, a few PowerQuest, a few American Offshore, 3 Talons, and I know of 1 Ciggarette and 1 Skater. several Nortech center consoles. So I would Say we have more than a few, But We Could Always Use More!!!!!

Thats a 2 second look at LOTO the first 20 yards of the lake. ^^^^^ Had to mess with you.
You can always go to Joe Pool for huge laughs if you are having a bad day. Some of the dumbest boaters breeds at that lake. Especially the boat rentals out on the water. |

I hear you but the 90's to mid 2000's it was 1000's of sportboats running around. Times have changed especially in the area hugely. No more poker runs and no more real organized fun runs period has not helped either.

We were on "C" dock back when 3 consecutive docks had 10+ #6 boats sitting on lifts. Labor Day poker run days were like the races. Loes had 114 octane at the fuel dock. Most good weekends would burn your eyes leaving the marina. Dammn those were the good days!

my boat came from there, I figured that there was some cool stuff down there

There is no question many performance boats still exist in the area - albeit far less than 10 or 15 years ago when the Texoma poker runs were so popular. As stated in an earlier post, there are quite a few performance boats here in the Fort Worth area, but we still only see 1 or maybe 2 others on a normal day. We hear people talk about "the boat that was here last weekend", but since the lake was dead, they chose a different lake for the following weekend.
My point is simply to suggest developing some common dates, or even days of the month on each of the area lakes where everybody can meet up - like a car rally. It makes owning a performance boat more fun because of the shared interest. It can also help to promote buying one of these boats for those that want to participate in the "rally". While Texoma is certainly the best lake for a large gathering, many of the area lakes would make for great venues like Lake Lewisville, Grapevine, Eagle Mountain, Possum Kingdom, Granbury, Ray Hubbard, etc.. A simple calendar could show which lake is the rally spot for each weekend. That way everybody knows where the hot spot is, rather the hearing about the "boat that was here last weekend". Anybody interested? |
Maybe in Sept for me, I am too busy and its too hot to hang outside all day long even at the lake.
|
Was at Lake Texoma a few months ago picking up my next 405, what I saw was devastating. The lake looked like the Red River and was just awful, I would not like to put my boat in it much less go swimming. I am sure it was not polluted but the red mud must be a pain to get off. I was told by the broker that no one was coming out anymore and the boating was almost non existent because of all the flooding, there was debris floating everywhere. I sure hope that it can make a comeback.

CcanDo,
It was great meeting you both last weekend! Monica and I had a great time hanging out. We would be interested in something like that for sure. I cant say I would be able to make every one of them (I'm sure we all have that problem), but would make as many as possible. I am pretty sure Juan (my buddy with the 38 Special) would feel the same. Weather permitting I will be back out on eagle mountain this weekend. Talk to you soon! Andy |
If someone can get something together for Eagle Mt or Grandbury that would great. We hit hit up both usually once month in the summer. The few I boat with don't have much interest in lewisvile. PK is good idea too, it would be cool to meet some local OSO guys.

I kept trying to find info on that memorial Day run, but I never could get any response with details.

My tub is just sitting in the dark up on Highport Road. Haven't had her out since January because the lake is so nasty. We , DFW CREW use to get together at different spots/area lakes back in the early 2000's and had big fun. Those guys have all moved on but it's a great idea.

Out on Lewisville today, saw the Nor Tech and few fountains, wondering if the outlaw that was out there is the one with the steps ? Had my young daughter and her friend so I didn't want to pull in there for a closer look some nice boats in there today.
I'm becoming more and more turned off to Lewisville, it's infested with idiots who have no clue how to boat and the jet skiers pulling tubes or jumping wakes are getting tougher to avoid. Had a cruiser cut in front of me trying to get to the cove by 35bridge and 10,000 jet skiers In pursuit of its wake,I thought for sure I was about to hit or witness someone get hit, I had to turn hard and hit the throttle to avoid hitting the cruiser then peg it to avoid the jet skier coming at us, I had absolutely no place to go ! Almost not worth it, sucks because I live on top of it. |
I don't have the boats that you guys do (77 scarab 300) but I would love to plan something like this and do it, we were on Pk last weekend and saw a 24? Baja pulling a tube with kiddos and a fountain at hells gate....I think someone on here (preferably with knowledge and social relations) should pick a date and put it in motion, would enjoy meeting yall
|
I would be in for that as long as it's not on lewisville, sad to say as I live on it but it's tough to move out there !

Blew a motor this weekend, may or may not have it back together in time for any of these events. Side Note, who has the Lime Green and Black go-fast boat on PK, saw it this weekend, cant imagine theyre not on here.
|
Are you referring to Caldwell's 39' MTI cat?
|
Very well could be, we were limping back to the ramp when we saw it, didn't get up close but it looked like an mti
|
Was out on Texoma Saturday, awesome day on the water in my friends boat. Got lunch at Marina Del Ray, went to sunset beach and anchored out, for awhile then rode by the dam then over by North Island. Saw a nest of Bald eagles nearby. probably saw 25 boats out all day.
|
If anybody on this thread is still interested I just found the Possum Kingdom Muscle Boat Association and they do a few fun runs and a Poker Run every year. I to would like to find a group to run with. There is not many fast boats around anymore. Ill be out at Possum Kingdom Labor Day weekend for the Red Bull cliff diving in my Scarab.
