The 454 mags were tested at 80+ mph in Fla in PB magazine in the old dominators. My engines would run 75-76 all day long at LOTO. Hit 78 on one fall day when all the stars aligned. But never saw 80 regardless of conditions or load. But 660 feet and lighter water scrapes a few mph.

Mentalpause I have a question for you? You stated that the small blocks will have an increased MPG. I have only had a big block 502 in my Aggressor and my wife and I just cruise around 35-45 and the fuel was not that bad. Will there be a huge difference if I got a 32' with 454/496? vs the small block 32' I have found a few small block 32' but nervous about the engine size and the resale seems very hard wanted to know you thoughts seeing that you know a bit more than I do. I have asked others and like to hear everyone's opinion! Thanks!

Depends what small blocks the boat has and what the RPM is at your normal cruise speed. If those 260 HP 5.7 EFI's are turning a bunch of RPM at cruise they may not be any more efficient (maybe even less efficient) than a pair of 496's. The 6.2's have shown to be a great combination of efficiency and performance and resale should be good on that combination. It is when you get to the 350 MAGs and the 5.7 EFI's and 5.7L's that you see people passing up boats they would otherwise buy if they had the bigger motors.

i disagree the boat sounded really good for 350's i dont think 454's sound much better i really dont 454's in that boat are really worth it i have herd guys with 454's only getting 72 mph out of them. i dont think the power to weight ratio is much better. if you want to go fast which i dont really care too much about, you need to get atleast 496 mags.

When you say 454's, which HP version are you referring to? The 454 mags (385HP) will run about the same as the 496s (375 HP version). Both will run well better than 72.

I always cruised around 2700-2800 RPM with the 454 mags, which equated to right around 40 mph. The old dominator hull (non step) would get consistently 2.2 MPG at that cruise. That was the most efficient gas burn I could get with those engines. My bet is the 496s (375 hp) would be similar, but I don't know that for sure.

Matt's (Chevy) 6.2 dominator (same non step hull) would go through less gas than that at a 35 - 40 MPH cruise, but not sure exactly what his burn was. My guess is it might be .5 or so MPG better, maybe close to 3 MPG. Maybe he will read this and post.

yeah i didnt mean the mag mototrs. i guess this guy was saying that he gets 2.4 mpg crusing at 45 mph not sure what rpm that puts it at though, but that makes it about 18 gallons per hour.

Knot, that is what I was thinking they spin more RPM'S then the larger motors making them the same on fuel. Thanks! And others have said the same thing to me and seeing that I am in the drivers seat I am really taking my time with the next purchase seeing that I will have it for life HA HA. But no disrespect to the owner of this boat, the boat is really clean I have heard but the motors are killing the sale. For me I am nervous that I will go thru the same issue of not being able to sell it.

Thanks for the reply just trying to do my home work and do the right thing. I don't really drive that fast at all once in a great while so even with some 496's I don't think they would be that bad heck I really thought my 502 was great on gas but I ran it around 2800 rpm and arond 35-40 mph. Thanks again!

the boat was very clean the motors shoudnt matter, it runs just as fast as a 454 boat (not the mag) maybe 2-4 mph less big deal, the 454 boats are in the 60k range not worth the extra money if you ask me. thats why we just bought it =)
