Default Speedometer making a mess

A new to me 2005 Sunsation 288 MCOB, Previous owner told me speedo did not work.
Oil seems to be leaking from it or an oily substance. I suppose water is being forced into it to gauge the speed and somehow getting all the way up to my dash.

Why can't I post a pic? Please follow link to see the issue and maybe offer a solution as to what I should do. I am considering replacing with a GPS but need help to get there from here

It appears they are simply prone to leaking. You are planning on replacing anyway? I would consider a 'dry' gauge in the future just to eliminate this possibility.

Thanks Bajaman. Old link from Speedwake. I had not been there in years. I planned on replacing as the speedo does not work at all. Just the liquid you see in it leaks. I'd never heard of a speedo filled with liquid.

They make them liquid filled so its easier to read the gauge when bouncing around...supposed to get rid of the needle bounce. That liquid is Glycerine.....you may be able to send it back to get re-sealed/repaired. Of just let the glycerine leak out and dont worry about it....if you take the gauge out there should be a rubber plug on the back of it for filling...open it up and dump it all out.
