Joey Dunlop, at the Isle of Man TT, once said "some think they want to go fast.....but, they really don't"...after 20 years of professional racing, i never felt i could use that quote. NOW I CAN...for those that think they do? bring it,,,we'll see ya in 2009.
Going faster does not always create better RACING....usually, the exact opposite is true.I think the fans want to see many equally matched boats racing side by side and trading positions,as opposed to a few very fast boats that tend to get spread out.The F1 and F2 classes were prime examples of this;as they were every bit,if not more popular, than the faster and more exotic Super Cats and Super Vees.

NASCAR and its new Sprint Cup spec car was designed with slower speeds, durability and affordability in mind. The cars are actually going more than 20mph slower than they were 20 years ago...but the RACING is better from 1st-43rd.It has resulted in a more level playing field among all of the teams.

This was the concept of the original Super Cat class;and it worked pretty well.Yeah,a few top teams won most of the races;but isn't that true in all forms of motorsports. Many times there were great battles throughout the entire field;and and a top five finish was something to be very proud of.Who knows, maybe the spec 850 Super Cat class will prove to be just as exciting in the future.I would also like to see some form of spec single and twin open cockpit vee racing make a comeback.

Great racing is fun to watch-no doubt.I fing that people are not realy watching most of the offshore races until the big cats come out-its what they are there to see.

I personaly like SCOTTY and i know that team geico will not just give away the win,
But also i think that the MTI is to old to have a chance against the new MYSTIC's in a race that lasts 3 days, in unpredictible water.

C-YA !!! all in Key West.

Oh ,and try not to run me over please. LOL

F2 racing was hot at one time(i loved it!)...so was racing a bertram for that matter...times change. Unlimited Offshore is the future.

I guess its a matter of opinion...the best hydroplane racing is the 5 Litre class;strong fields of boats that require heat races to determine a line up for a main event. At the better races, there over 20 boats entered in this class. The racing is fast and furious at about 120mph..with boats literally bouncing off of each other in the corners.Ask many people involved in hydroplane racing about the turbines in the Unlimiteds and they will say they prefer the piston boats. This is why the Grand Prix and Unlimited Light hydroplane classes are making a strong comeback.

I guess we can agree to disagree.Anyway...good luck in KW and be safe. Are the turbines and extremes at least going to start together...that would be something to see.

hea i like the turbines, but they are not the whole show. just look at the hydros, they need to have support races to keep things going. detriot would have sucked if it wasn't for Supercat racing there.
turbine class is like F1, only those with a major sponsor on unlimited wallet can compete. where would that leave the other 95% of the racers.

a friend of ours races 5L class...sorry to say i have never watched, so i can't say.

i have always looked at racing through marketing eyes...20 years of racing professionally, i have always raced something i could never do on my own.

"Here at JBS Racing we are in constant pursuit of alternative and progressive ideas. This focus will put us on the cutting edge of marketing relationships between motor sports and Corporate America for racing seasons to come." JSkrocki

"turbine class is like F1"....no it's not...it's less money that other unlimited's have spent on gas engines!...you could have a truck with 20 turbine engines on it...each team would pick the ones they wanted race and put them back at the end of the race to be inspected for the next race. we are damn near doing it now.

there will always be support races. more races during the day from the same class works very well...
