Tony!

Congrat's on your win at Michigan City, you and the rest of the boats have always run hard, where ever you raced. We all love you guys no matter where you are racing and appreciate all that everyone of you continue to do for the fans and the sport.

All I can say is what another great weekend in Michigan City!

We were lucky to stumble on it the first year. We were actually heading back to Lake Erie to go boating on the cig. Got through Gary around 9pm and found out the weather in Ohio was calling for rain and high of 65 all weekend. The wife and I took a detour to check out the race site and spend a night a the Blue Chips. Neither one of us wanted to continue driving 5 hours to sit at the marina in the rain. Once I told pops of the geico boats I already saw parked out front of the casino, we were able to con my parents to meet us there Saturday afternoon. Unknowingly we hit Matty's and found out how cool of a place it is. We ran into the OSO Flat deck crew.. Met a bunch of great people, shared a bunch of laughs, and had a few Voodoos to boot.. My parents showed up and off we went to the pits.. We pretty much scoured the whole area. My pops finally admitted he made the right decision to jump in the car and meet us. I think there was a good boat count that year. Sunday races rocked. Nothing like a few cold beers on the beach and in the water suppressing the hangover as a bunch of boats go screaming by... After that weekend, we were hooked and haven't missed a year..!

For the fans, the race site is really sweet. Everything is pretty much centrally located. Viewing is right off the pits. Dockage at the marina is right next to the pits. The walk to Matey's and town is pretty short.... I will say the town fully supports this weekend! They offer free shuttle service from parking sites to the wet pits. They organized a Taste of Michigan City that coincides with the boat parade on Saturday night...

I will say last year sucked with the races cancelled. I couldnt wait to see the "offshore" boats run "offshore" in the rough conditions. However, after the previous worlds, I think they made the right move. ALL the racers wanted to race but, they could not secure the safety & turn boats. I still remember watching a 50+ yacht out there just bobbing in the water. I swear we were going to see the props on it when he was heading straight into the waves.

It seams each year it gets better and better in regards to city/local business support regardless of the boat count. I have to agree with Mr. Medicine. It was actually easy for someone to watch and figure out who was winning... The boats sounded great and were again close to land that made viewing easy even for my blind eyes.. My only funny suggestion is the number of checkered flags handed out should be limited to one... You will really confuse the people when it looks like everybody won.... As for why the low numbers, I have to agree with SBI is a really FLA org except for the New York Race... I understand the other race was just in Lake StClair but its gotta comes down to Logistics. One can only take so many days off of work...

Thats my 2 cents. All in all, can't wait for next year..! I am already craving a Voodoo & crab cake

Congrats on your win in Michigan City! I am so proud of my team for their hard work and put a great race! Your boat was so dialed in! When any issues come to racing, you know what is best for racing! Traveling to Michigan City was worth my time. Thanks, Tony for everything! I think last time you earned a flag was....2008??? If so, holy crap...but worth the wait!

We will discuss more via text later.

Tony,

That was Boomer's not Smitty's post.

On the topic, it is a shame that only 9 boats showed. In the bigger picture I bet that MI City doesn't feel it recieved a good value for its money, efforts and promotion. That's the problem. This is a world class venue and is being destroyed. Sites like this will be adding tougher performance clauses which will include minimum boat counts and return on investment requirements.

SBI doesnt have a problem with min.boat counts clause and never has. I know you are concerned, but dont worry its all good the City was excited and so were the fans. They said it was the best show they have seen in yrs. Tony and I spoke to the Mayor for over an hr and ever event they had during the week had record breaking attendance. The parade was out of control and the ppl had a blast. The city is commited and excited about next yr and promise even more for the racers and fan. If you werent there you missed a hell of a show.

I guess everybody has a different definition of racing.
I'll tell you about mine.
I drive 15 hours and one of the michigan clowns tells me it's to bad you drove so far to lose.
St. Claire michigan - 11 boats at the start for class 6.
Right from the start i get cut off, boxed out and washed down by "knot guilty".
After the first couple of laps "repeat offender" and myself are going back and fourth pulling ahead after each turn until finally they cut to the inside and wash me down hard around turn 3 and 4 and they take the lead.
Then team "acula" is playing chicken with us around two turns. He pulled ahead.
Then you have "hurricane" with smitty driving.
We did everything to cut them off but his driving skills are just that much better then ours.
I just couldn't get the boat to handle right. I didn't know i was leaking hydrolic fluid from my port trim tab pump.
By the end of the race we broke the prop shaft and the storage boxes behind my seats are all busted up.
That michigan clown beat me in tawas and i beat him in st. Claire.
On the ride back to the dry pits the fans said class 6 was awesome.
Lots of compliments were given to my sons.
I get home and my wife throws her cell phone at me and tells me she is getting rid of the boat because i put my 13 year old son in the boat as navigator. Josh couldn't make it to the race. Michael took his place. I didn't tell her what my plans were.
I have to pay jason saris cash on the next repair so my wife won't find out.
When i get back to port huron michigan - everybody is on my kill list. I don't care if i have to "kick, box or throw rocks!"
i will have 18 tabs on the dashboard. One for each lap and one for each team.

My friends, this is excitment!!

If i wanted to race against myself, i can do that 10 minutes from my house in the hudson river. Then, when i get beck to the dock i can tell everybody that "i won".

The michigan race was well worth the trip, the break downs and getting screamed at by my wife.

Wow I am surprised at all the cheap shots taken at any organization....so far I have seen a racer come on here that organized and got approval for a class that has only shown up for 1 race out of 4 so far this season, whats even funnier is I even saw a promoter go on facebook, down the michigan city race and he was the one that bounced a big check to the organization he supports. Maybe Smitty & JC should start holding a gun to the racers heads and force them to show up to the races. I have raced both groups and all sites and groups have their strengths and weaknesses. I have raced against 22 other boats in my class and I have raced against myself.. I went north cause everyone was saying all I had were empty titles. I can attest that yes I have a blast racing no matter what flag flies, however, my titles achieved when I went chasing after competition is just about as worthless as the ones I won in my back yard.

Offshore Racing as a whole could be a lot better, on both sides(hell their even letting 13 yr olds race as Jeff pointed out, K&K should have a field day with that one)

The moral:"Those who live in glass houses shouldnt throw rocks" or "either start writing (good)checks to make it better or shut it"

I'm a local guy to Lake Michigan... we boat there every weekend that its nice out... love seeing the races in Michigan City.... yeah, I wish there were more racers, but to be honest, I had a great time as did the rest of our boating group.... hats off to all of you for representing.... thanks

BTW, I bet the Sea Ray in the video was crapping when WHM partially spun around a corner and was heading right for them...

Oh, and btw... sorry for anchoring in your milling area.... the coasties gave me the ok... said I was outside the barrier.... Apparently I wasn't...
