Question for the SBI guys, In OPA we split the prize $ up among all the boats. It seems to be pretty fair and makes it a little easier on the pocket book. Is this something that the SV guys would consider to attract more boats?

This question is for the OPA guys!

Would Smitty be receptive if the SVL racers as a group asked him to adopt the same rules as SBI for this class. Then you could do an inexpensive reprogram of the ecu and race or convert that motor to the carb package for a few more dollars. This would open OPA up to more SVL boats showing up at the northern races, especially the ones close to the SBI northern races! I know I intend on leaving my boat up north between these races and would like to run a few extra!

Everyone needs to remember, both organizations run the same Super Cat and Super Stock Rules, why not Super V/ SVL also!

The SBI rules seem to be fair and working, so I doubt there is any room for change, at least not this season!

And Randy, On the Mercury 525 Reliability, I don't think anyone would argue with you, the issue is that they are out of production and the OPA seal rule is to limited!

The other funny thing is, when I last talked to Eric Christianson at Mercury, he told me he does not know where people are getting there motors sealed because Mercury has not seen a 525efi race motor come thru there doors in over 3 years!

Nobody racing has had to do a rebuild in the last 3 years. And Merc did I believe 3-4 that year so no one has needed any seals. All the motors have seals that are numbered engraved and registered to that particular motor. If you are not racing in OPA I don't think anyone would reseal a motor when they rebuild it. I don't know what Smitty is receptive to. Are you saying just a simple ECU upgrade would make the same power as the SBI motors?

As far as the SBI rule book, and my understanding, the only modifications allowed to the 525efi is a reprogrammed ECU with the revlimiter raised to 5800 rpm. Precision in Louisiana told me that they can reflash the ECU to raise the rev limiter and make the program more aggressive to gain between 50-75HP. Most 525efi's from mercury were dynoing at 540-560hp. That would bring a strong motor up to approx. 625hp. I have not done this yet, but when I was looking at racing both organizations, I had researched the option of having 2 ECU's, one for OPA and One for SBI.

If I have been misinformed on this, someone please let me know!

Frank, I thought the 525 had to remain at 8.7 and the carb motor could do 9.0 but yes I forgot about the cubic inch that could be increased during a rebuild!

I just looked at the rule book and it states for the 525 efi, OEM specs except 510cu in and 5800rpm, is the OEM spec 8.7 or 9.0?
