Default Y2K Questions

I know everyone is happy with the Y2k here. How different is it to go to a sit down boat? Not that I have all that much time in a bolster boat either, but that is all I have driven. I am very interested in the Y2K and have had a phone call with John. I just am a little nervous about the sit down and the 7' beam.

If I wanted to build one using a GM Vortec rather than mercruiser power, you think John would accomodate? Seems like a more economical route. I know, probably a question for John.

I am going to be in Hershey, PA towards the end of this month. Looks like about a 4 hour drive to Superboat from there. Trying to talk the wife into it now.

Jay i have been in stand up bolster boats for most of my boating years, all i can say is i am glad to finally glad to sit and enjoy a boat ride. NEVER did i ever feel uncomfortable sitting and driving with the 7' beam. In fact with that beam width you knife through the rough and always track correct. THE Y2K IS LIKE AN ARROW ON THE WATER !!!!! As for GM vortec JC will accomdate you with any motor, or no motor any way you want it. Jay as most Y2K onwers will tell you. THE BOAT IS ONE GREAT BANG FOR THE BUCK !!!! Good luck................Gary

Thanks for the info. I started reading your build thread as you had suggested before, but I haven't had time to finish. There's alot of stuff there!

It is just such a beautiful boat. I look at all the pics and drool (only a little though!). My big problem is that I want to be on the water by Memorial day 06. John said a $10k deposit is required to start the build. I can't make that deposit until Jan, which means a boat by end of season probably. If that is the way we want to go, I guess we'll just have to deal with it.

I went from a 31 stand-up Sonic to the Y2K. I am very happy I made the switch! The Y2K handles rough water better, although you have to "drive" it a little more. I am much more comfortable sitting down, especially in rough conditions. A few times in the Sonic my hands came off the throttles or steering trying to balance myself. You just can't go wrong with this boat!!!!!

Oh yeah, I'm not the tallest guy on the planet either. I'm only 5'-6". Would this affect my ability to see over the faring? Geez, I sound like a little kid trying to drive my dad's pickup!

You can have the seats built anyway you want.

Get the "JC" seat "special", lol. I don't think John C. is much taller, and he manages.

I had my seat bases lowered 2" and Im 5'10" and love it as its set up. If you leave them standard height you should be all right....By the way you should see eye-to-eye whith JC! You may consider some sort of foot rest though cause at the standard seat height, only my toes would touch the floor. Now my feet are flat on the floor. Superbabi's thread Im sure Gary has a picture somewhere of his foot rests which worked out well for him I believe. I drove his boat (Superbabi) and found his foot rests worked out very nicely!

Jay i will dig up a photo for you of the foot rest. A must have on the standard height seat base, otherwise your feet and legs will dangle precariously , just ask anyone who has driven with JC..........Sorry JC, I just had to say that !!!!!!!!!
