When I was a Pantera owner, Jo and I corresponded a lot.
Jo told me that steps in a 24' boat would not help with speed and the fact Superboat had them was just a marketing ploy.
He reasoned that a 24' boat running fast would lift past the step negating its effect.
I questioned JC, when I was inquiring about a new 24'. JC did not deny that the step may come right out when the 24' is trimmed out.
Jo also told me he would not even consider steps in his 28' for the same reason.
Hmmmmm So now why is JO putting steps in the 28 now???

They've only done a few 36s.
Anyone want to comment on the 24, stepped vs straight V?
Speed vs Handling?

Yup.
The 1998 and newer hull is 1-2mph faster than my 1997.
Probably not because it has a step though...
It has bigger lifting strakes and a semi pad bottom.
Handling difference? I don't know, never drove the stepped hull version...
Now Storm, are you going to ask me if my 24' Super is faster than my 24' Pantera was? Or how about my 24' Super vs. your old 24' Pantera? :p

I also remember you telling me your old pantera spankin a 27(or 29)fountain on the way back from block island... in the rough.

Yup that is true. My 24' Super spanked the same 29' Fountain this year... :D
I do have to admit to getting my azz kicked by a Pantera this year though... :drink:
T-Mone has one hell of a 24' Pantera with an awesome 585HP engine. :evilb:

Re: New 24's???

I recently purchased a used 1995 Superboat, 454mag/Bravo1. The boat is beautiful, especially for the price. This is my first "Go Fast" and fits my needs perfectly. My next boat will probably be a used 30Y2K. I cannot afford the price of a new boat, so I figure with how many Y2K's are selling now, in about 6 years, I will be able to pick one up at a price I can afford. The big question is, how many 21' and 24' are selling now? My guess would be very few.
