What do you do for income?
I thought I would start something new here.
What do you do? What do you like about it? What don't you like about it? Would you change if you could? I am in the Home Mortgage business. A loan officer for Ameritech Mortgage. Great hours. Come and go as I please. My wife does marketing with Real Estate agents for me. Money is good if your good. One thing I don't like is: Alot of people in the business of including Escrow, Title ect.. that are lazy and slow down your closing dates. You try everything to meet deadlines but someone always seems to try to through a wrench in it. Just changed carreers this year. I was a parts dept. director for five automotinve franchises. 17 years in the business and decided it was too much work and stress. Good money though. |
Re: What do you do for income?

Re: What do you do for income?
Just sold my landscape contracting business after 13 yrs. Too much overhead, too many problems, too much competition, too dependant on weather.
Anyone hiring??? :D |

Re: What do you do for income?
I'm a mechanical design engineer for a packaging machine builder.
The job is OK so long as the boss leaves me alone... $$, not enough for me to buy a new Y2K... :( Do I need a change? Maybe in 2006... |
Re: What do you do for income?
Mechanical Engineer, .
Likes: new challenges, flex time so I can take time off when I want it. Decent money but not great. Dislikes: Engineers by nature are dorky and not very social. Slightly too much travel lately. About .0001% population is attractive women while in school and now in work place. :-) Changes if possible: Would make it more portable, i.e. my wife is in health care and can move anywhere and get a job, my situation is more limited . |

Re: What do you do for income?
Mechanical Engineer in downtown NYC.
I came across this 1977 24' Super on ebay guy says it does 95+ with a 468 BBC & Gal Banks. What do you guys think ? http://cgi.ebay.com/25-foot-Superboa...QQcmdZViewItem |
Re: What do you do for income?
Wow a lot more engineering types here then I woulda expected. You are right Chris about the lack of humor, the movie "office space" is truly scary close to a cubical farm. I almost went into HVAC and the HVAC guys joked that the architects were not creative enough to be artists and couldn't do enough math for engineering.
Thayes, I looked at the auction, looks like deal, 95+ seems fast but I don't have enough knowledge to say for sure. What is up with the goofy straps on the drive? Surely nobody would be ina boat that fast with trim issues? |
Re: What do you do for income?
Not to get off the subject of income, but the Gale Banks Turbo ??? Didn't that go the way of the Air Research Turbo ( Buick Grand National ) ?????..........GONE........PARTS??????

Re: What do you do for income?
Im a Salesmanager at a car dealership and a Wholesale Sales manager for the three family owned dealerships....
I enjoy sales but the hours are long and require Saturdays and occasional Sundays. They treat me good here but I produce so enough said.... I'd love to have a Monday-Friday gig to be a part of more boating related activities though.. |
Re: What do you do for income?
OH-ZONE,
I know about the hours your talking about. The sales guys at the dealer I was at where ther often after midnight, even though they got to work at 9am. |
Re: What do you do for income?
mneal: I was in HVAC as a Product Specialist for York Htg & AC for 10 years before I became a mechanical Engineer. NY'er usally have a dry sence of humor anyway.

Re: What do you do for income?
I'm a Mechanical Engineer by education and worked as one for almost 10yrs for a heavy construction equipment OEM.
Just started a new job today as a Business Unit Manager for a company that supply components to Aircraft and Military industry. Engineering is a fun career most of the time and it pays pretty well. But, there is no real potential for huge income unless you go out on your own and manufacture something. |

But it won't be for a Y2K just yet (unless I win the lottery!), rather a stair step into something like this Scarab 29'er. As for the web, I only spend time anymore on 2 sites - OSO and Hotboat. I keep up with the Superboats since I hope someday to be the proud owner of a Y2K! You just happened to have pretty much build the boat I've dreamed of building - my preview of things (hopefully!) to come, so to speak... |

Started as Branch Manager and always did well with the smaller business and sent alot of referrals to the commercial guy here at the time. He treated me and some of the referrals like crap. He's gone now and I'm in. I really like it.

Re: What do you do for income?
IT work. System administration, database administration, networking. I work on a gov't contract at the Pentagon.
I don't work real hard, don't get dirty, pay is OK, REAL flexible schedule. I work from home about 50% of the time. One thing I don't like is the job location. Traffic sucks. Fortunately, I was not there on 9/11 but that looms in the back of my mind. What if...... |
