Pair of V6 Optis on 24' Superboat?
#1
Hi All,
I have a V8 Johnson on the back of a 24 Superboat and my buddy just told me he has a pair of 225? 250? Optis off a big fish boat that he will be letting go cheap.
I'm thinking about doing a swap.
Any Ideas on this?
I assume there are 24 SBs w twin V6s, certainly there are on Bananas.
I expect the weight would bring the bow up some, which would be welcome.
Would I just add another Bob's Jack and have 2 or do I need a single jack wide enough for twins?
How fast would this boat run w 450 - 500 hp?
Is there room on the 24' Superboat to add another 30-50 gallons of fuel?
I have single ram Mayfair steering. Would I just add a tie bar or can I add in another ram as well on hte port side? or do I need different steering for twins?
I guess I 'd also need to redo the dash and get another full set of Livoris from Fred. Too bad I won't know for a few more weeks, the GP will probably be over by then.
Any other thoughts or Ideas are welcome

I bet the fuel wont be as bad as you think. 2 new fuelinjected not as bad as 1 V8. I loved my 24 with twinns . Pulled like a drag car once the nose came down. It will put a hurtin on the transom. The 24 all around handles the best with a single , the twin makes it alittle ass heavy and tends to sky the nose more. A new 300X will be more reliable and more fuel efficient but not faster than your v8 if its a good one. If the boat is going to be used by you and your buds and run hard you will like the twinns. If its for the family with kids keep the single.

Figure i can answer this because i have a 24 with twin 2.4's and 8in gil bracket.
1) Transom will need massive reinforcment if it is an older boat.
2) If you run in water with big swells its hard to keep the bow down. (2 ft chop is alot of fun and runs awsome)
3) fuel is not that bad
4) Better get a very reputable steering set up, latham with twin rams. (or equivilant) Bad steering the boat is very dangerous.
5) needs solid motor mounts
If i were to do it all over again i would get a single 300, twins you really need to drive th eboat at high speeds. But then again their is nothing like pulling up to the dock with a 24 SB with twins on it. always gets alot of attention.
