Hey Rob,
I know a guy that may have a left over 420HP/8.2GSI Volvo Penta test engine for like 7K.
It is a 502Mag with an AZ Speed EFI and GM wiring with MFEI-3 ECM.
You could rig the boat with a Konrad drive and this engine. Then when you get her back to Cal strip the engine of it accessories, wiring, ECM, and use every thing on your 572.
A 502 longblock is worth 3-4K and the AZ Speed Intake is worth $$ too.

Lightspeed knows best...
And I would bet you still have plenty of time to get your engine to NY if you don't mind paying the shipping.

Damn Pat stop being right all the time.... :)

Yeah thats what I found out this moring that it would have no value as a donor so now its a question of race to get the real motor done and hope all the parts come together when they say they will or spend 12k on a motor that I'm only going to get half value for in 6 months? I need to find a better hobbie.

I've learned a lot reading on this sight and piecing together stuff from used parts I've bought... :drink:

If you are still entertaining the thought of a donor/test engine, one of these would be a much better value.

Yes it is... we sell all the volvo stuff too. They used to make motors up to 600 hp. Not shure if they still do though...

Rob,
Finally got the glass over the tank and . Did a few hours grinding to make everything look nice for gelcoating. Plus we flipped your deck over. Here are the first pics. The deck next to yours is the 24' deck we pulled out today.

The engine in the picture is a 2000 or 2001 model year Volvo Penta 420HP/8.2GSi.
Basically it is Volvo's version of the 502MagMPI. The main difference between the Merc and Volvo is the MPI Intake.
Merc used their own castings, Volvo used AZ Speed.
Gee I wonder which is better?
Gary, if you don't catch my sarcasm, The AZ Speed Volvo used is the same Merc uses on the 525...

Your not alone G.
And, I bet Rick wants to know more than anyone...
Rick did say that the boat after the Turbine boat gets a 496.

I like your thinking Gary. :evilb:
But it would not really be a fair test with the added loses of the tranny associated with Robs Konrad drive... :(
It's got to be a Merc 496HO, Bravo X, just like Krackmeup's boat...

Re: Rob, Huntington Beach !!

Ok all I think we got the motor issue put to bed, I'll have some details to post tomorrow I hope. If JC wants to drop his motor in my hull for testing more power to him but I seriously doubt it with how busy they have been around the shop.

Rick that picture with the side by side decks is sick... One of the best pic's you have taken and the subjects look sweet to boot!!!

FX10 03-15-2006 11:08 PM

Re: Rob, Huntington Beach !!

I highly doubt JC will put his motor in for testing for 2 reasons.
1. It's not a straight bolt up to the drive like an XR. It will need a 4 point mount made up.
2. The Konrad has a speedy lower. You need to be going over 80 for that to show speed gains. Coen Jr. lost 2mph when he tried one on his Y2K.
To show the true difference, the Y2K needs a 496HO with a XR drive.....period.

Yup, but I'd say X drive like Krack has or had. The XR takes a tiny bit more power to drive than an X.

So Guys,
How fast is this baby going to run?
http://go-fast.com/boat_speed_predictions.htm

My guess, assuming 950HP at the prop, is 104mph... :D

Rob, why to many ????

Rob,
Got your e-mail. I'll give it to Coen when he comes in.

Rick

HuntingtonBeach 03-22-2006 10:20 AM

Re: Rob, Huntington Beach !!

It's not that there are too many it's just the whole small dash area vs. the size of the gauges and GPS.

2- 4 5/8"
8- 2 5/8"
1- GPS
1- Trim Indicators

And making it all look like it should be there and not jambed together. Coen has his work cut out for him... LOL

Hey Rob,
Did I miss something? did you divulge all the poop on your engine and out-drive?
572, PSI super charger, EFI...
Konrad drive and tranny...

Are you trailering her home completely rigged and sea tested?
I would assume you're planning in May?

Let's get together in Superboat land... :drink:

Re: Rob, Huntington Beach !!

Have a new "ACE" on order from konrad. The motor is a work in progress and everytime I think I know what the specs are they change so until its complete and dyno'd I'm just kepping my mouth shut. Not sure how the boat is getting to california yet, I need to get a trailer ordered up but everyone is telling me they need the boat to build one so I'm in a catch 22. If I had to get it out here today it would be on a flat bed and I can get the trailer made when it gets here but we'll see what happens between now and then. I haven't booked any flights yet but I think early May is a safe bet. Be kinda fun if everyone came down to the shop for the testing!!!

Rob,
Trailers out here are gonna be double. My aluninum trailer was $4300. I had qoutes out here for a steel trailer for $6500.

There are no shots of the new ACE on the Konrad web page.
Do you have anything you could post?

The Ace is a 540 drive w/ a high performance lower, stand off box, steering, and BAM tanny. I have the brochure in PDF form. If anyone wants it emailed just shoot me a PM.

Re: Rob, Huntington Beach !!

Tom what trailer company did you end up going with? I'm looking at MYCO and Pacific (they started doing aluminum) and maybe Extreme but they don't do aluminum?

Re: Rob, Huntington Beach !!

Here is a link to Rolls Axle trailers. Nice trailer for the $$. It's bolted together, not welded. I'm not sure why. It does flex alot on rough roads.
http://www.rollsaxle.com/boat_trailers.htm
Must be the design. i would never buy a steel trailer after the ones i had in the past turn to junk either from the road rock chips or the salt dunking.

Rick or anyone with a tape measure handy; How tall of a motor can you stuff under the hatch before it won't clear? And how deep can the Oil pan be before it will hit?

I saw the sister motor to mine mocked up last night and that sucker is TALL!!! I'll take a pic of it next time I'm at the shop. Oh and a polished 14-71 looks soooooo nice, its a thing of beauty ;)

HuntingtonBeach 03-23-2006 07:26 PM

Re: Rob, Huntington Beach !!

Thanks for the link guys... I'm really only looking at Aluminum trailers for the same reason you mentioned Tom, they just don't last as long. As for the pricing I didn't know the west coast guys were more expensive? I thought that apples for apples they were the same? How's the ride with the Rolls on the freeway and would you tow across country every summer with it? I remember you guys got a pretty smokin' deal on those last year.

FASTERDAMITT 03-23-2006 07:39 PM

Re: Rob, Huntington Beach !!

Actually not as smooth as my old steel trailer. The suspension is stiffer and less travel. My Rolls Axle seems to bounce the truck more than it should. That could be the way the boat is set on the trailer. I wish I could have had the trailer set up by Rolls with the boat on it.
