550-600 HP Small block

Just thinking out loud, natural aspired, EFI, keep them at no more than 600 hp, for bravo XR drives. Who can build em and $$$$$

Problem is that you have to run them at over 6000 rpms to make power and the valvetrain suffers. If you built 427 SBs you could get away with it to a certain extent, but they would be pricey. They lack the Big Block torque that is just as important as HP

JC I was thinking of the small blocks for a easy side by side set up for the Y2K. Superboat has a already did a twin 350/377 Sm block Y2K so the layout ( stringers, etc. ) would be pretty simple. I was thinking of a pair of sm blocks so we could easy get over 1000 HP in the boat on the XR drives What do ya think ???The thought is to stay with the smaller drives as opposed to a single 1000 + on a # 6 drive.

The old RC Marine 30 Superboat went 85 with 450 a side with SBs.It was reliable at that HP.You could make 500 to 525 a side which would be a reliable combo. It would run in a Y2K hull.

So what your saying is 500-525 hp max on the small block for reliability??

What way would be more cost saving 2, 500 sm blocks, or 1 1000 bb ???
