Hey jcap and pure energy, thanks for the input.I am asuming your drives are mounted on std bravo gimbal not its systems.Konrads box is 8 inches,so i figure need to go up 1,I think i am going to mount propshaft 3in bellow bottom, that will be about the same as 4 on std gimbal, with new bottom it might work if not just add some spacers.I just ordered some 6 blade herrings( 29 pitch) for a customer so i will toss one on and give it a try.Any tried herrings? i know they are hard to get and not cheap.Hopefully getting boat soon and start rigging it before the spring madness.

hey ric,
truth is i dont think any super 30s had a bow lift PROBLEM, its just a long narrow single and will always need a bow lifting prop . Cleaver style never work on them. Im not sure i feel much difference between tempest no step hull and Y2Ks( I have driven very similiarly equipped hulls) I think the steps need triple digits to really make a difference and ive not gotten there. MDG I have tried a 5 blade herring but it was a 28 and just not enough prop, it was great hole shot and seemed to handle well . Throttle has a new prop, its a mix between bow lifting and stern lifting. I think that might be something really hot for a Y2K, I just lov the handling and i dont want so much lift i get the speed but loose the on a rail handling. you should call Matt and Julie to see if you could try one . |

My thoughts are, Ricks attempting to build in some bowlift into the hull being the Y2K is longer than any boat around here running a single. Any body with long arms knows lenght is weight. Center of gravity changes and can hurt performance in calm water. In the rough give me length any time. Perfect example is the new Activator, Heavier then a Y2K but 3 feet shorter needing less leverage to carry the nose. The new Y2K bottom can only be a win win using less trim giving a better angle on the drive pushing forward instead of the ass down to lift the nose. Cappie back to leverage just think what a difference lowering the drive 1 inch made for you giving more leverage to carry the nose. You know the deal just because it worked for your boat doesnt mean it will work on every Y2K. Good to have you active on the board again Jim.

Gary and I have done prop testing together and his boat is vary sensitive to the amount of bowlift a particular prop provides. I do know that Gary purchase a 1" spacer but I don't think he tried it yet. What's the word OH-Zone? Come on Spring! Gary (Oh-Zone) let's try to get on the water to do some testing in early May. I've got a couple new props to try...:evilb: |

I ran fastest with a 1in extension on a standard XR lower, That put the prop shaft at 5in below lowest point of the V. The konrad with its transmission may set a little deeper, but with the short lower you may need an extension. The changes in the steps Rick made look great, but I dont think they will change the need for bow lift. Bravo props worked well but my best prop was a hydro P5x. My fastest was bravo32 5800rpm 93.2 gps. I have tried rightys but the boat definetely prefers left hand props. P5x props seemed to run just 1 or 2 mph faster but much better hole shot and amazing handling difference.
Same experience on my Y2K, put in the 1" spacer and greatly improved the bowlift and handling. I've tried a hydro P5 and improved speeds across the full range, 1-2 at top end, ~5mph in the mids......now I want to try a lefty - anyone got a 25 or 26P P5 hydromotive lefty? |
