As you know we layed up the hull last week, and we did the initial lay up on the deck and some of the foam coring on the deck. Since then , the bow section has been balsa cored, along with the center. Today the transom went in . Tomorrow it will be glassed over, and we will start putting in the stringers

Superbabi 03-22-2007 05:30 PM

Rick, what motor in this new hull ??? :D

FX10 03-22-2007 06:32 PM

FX10 03-22-2007 06:33 PM

Sounds great and welcome!! LOL at Rick and his "too many foomes"!!!

z.zuperboat 03-23-2007 08:20 AM

Babylon Hmmmmm. Did You Say Just The Bare Basics, Sound Pretty Good To Me 525/dual Ram Steering/ 380 Tabs. Niceeeee. The Gps With Map Is A No Brainer For New Boaters. I Would Recommend Staying Away From Any Lab Finish Props. The 30,s Like Cup. Run Aground Once In The Great South Bay And You Lab Jub Is Junk. Labbing Thins The Blades Too Much. Back to the motor. Merc gets crazy money for motors. Being from babylon their are lots of great motor builders that can give you more power and save you money. Just to name a few Mcbetts-MRD-JC performance-Zul-Jeff at S&K Speed. All top notch builders who will stand by their work.

Stormrider 03-23-2007 09:16 AM

ahhh, the good old custom or stock debate... one of my favs.

So far sounds like all the right options... gonna be a sweet ride.

H2oscene 03-23-2007 11:30 AM

I spent lots of time also with the stock merc vs custom motor debate and my right side beat my left side and the hp525 won, also considered and almost got a 496ho then in the future trick that up but....... as far as props go the boat is going to hit sand, but kinda like top end also... so im still not sure what props gonna go on....... the boat should run good with the new bottom that john and rick have created with any number of props... gonna go with all the imput from all the advice I get from the guys in the know...

Smart choice to go with Merc Racing, the 525 is the work horse of the go fast boats, you should think about mercs Smartcraft system if its in your budget. I have it in my Y2K and I love it. The system ( smartcraft ) tells you every thing on board ( over 80 types of info ).

z.zuperboat 03-23-2007 01:12 PM

Your lucky if you see 1-2 on the top end with a lab prop. And your going to also loose some midrange. Stock bravo worked best for me. Never tried a hydromotive. Throttle Up has a new interesting Prop, Called a Barracuda. Looks promising.

Pat McPherson 03-23-2007 02:14 PM

You can't go wrong with the Merc products. For sure you could have a custom built engine that would make far more power for the same $$ but...
As far as props, the Bravo one 4 blade and Hydro P5X 5 blade seem to be the props of choice on the Y2K hulls.
Good Luck and welcome to the Superboat family...

H2oscene 03-23-2007 03:05 PM

I had the bravo one 4-blade on my last boat and their price is reasonable... but the hydromotive P5X would be the prop that I would like (the looks alone are just cause) but as JC says if I want a left prop they are not readily available for testing, this is the prop that I am most interested in comparing... As far as the barracuda prop I dont know that one but Ill definately check into it... Thanks Pat, by the way, this is my second SUPERBOAT, I had a custom 24 that had the deck lenghtened after market ,it was an 80s boat that I about 10 yrs ago for 2 seasons so it is actually a welcome back to superboat

H2oscene 03-24-2007 08:35 AM

scanned a picture of my first superboat with the lenghtened deck thought it might be interesting

Stormrider 03-24-2007 08:46 AM

h2o, pretty slick, looks like an excalibur sport.

SUPERSTITIOUS 03-24-2007 10:27 AM

Hay H20scene...
Welcome!
Congratulations!
Enjoy the build process..I cant wait to see her come along!

H2oscene 03-25-2007 07:24 AM

Superbabi, what do you think about smart craft guages since the system monitor is a $$$, from what I here JC thinks the gauges are small, ugly and not easy to read but I am giving him a copy of the Livorsi Marine Smartcraft Gauges to review and I also understand they are much less labor intensive to install plus I can get trim indicator guages

FX10 03-25-2007 08:46 AM

I like it !! Your doing your homework. ;) So much for the half guage. LOL

H2oscene, I like the smart craft system, I use the big monitor and a few aux. smartcraft guages. How much $$$ is the monitor ( remember the monitor has the drive and tab levels built in ) If I remember OZ ZONE has the smaller smartcraft set up, perhaps he will chime in.

H2oscene 03-26-2007 03:31 PM

Took the Livorsi Marine Smartcraft information to SUPERJC today and we decided to go for the thier Option 5 Package with the System Tachometer 3"Diam. which is loaded with information it even has a depth guage, also with that a Link speedometer 3"Diam., and five other Link Gauges 2"Diam. for fuel level, oil pressure, voltmeter and trim angle and water temp. - - - some guages are redundant but they look good

Superbabi 03-26-2007 05:22 PM

H2Oscean, what color are you going with, seats, guages, cabin ????

H2oscene 03-26-2007 05:51 PM

Exterior colors are going to be white hull, deck and the air scoop engine hatch (the opening to air scoop is going to be trimmed in electric blue) the windscreens are going to be black. Interior will be a New Fully Apolstered front seat mostly white with a electric type blue inserts and superboat logos embroidered on backrests, back seats and cabin to match. The gauges, grab rails, steering wheel and throttle tops to be blue to match motor.

Superbabi 03-26-2007 06:28 PM

Sounds like she is gonna be a beauty !!!!! When does Rick say you will splash ???

H2oscene 03-27-2007 11:10 AM

Superbash, I looked at your SUPER thread saw your boat white and blues, I think we meet at Kismit when your boat first went in. That was when I actually desided to get a Y2K I liked your colors... I ran back with you John and Rick,I was in my 27 Progression and the chop killed me and I dont even think the Y2K even noticed the chop... Told JC to get everything ordered ASAP!!! I think I got all the options that I want resolved
hope to splash May 18

Superbabi, not Superbash ( Superbash is an old friend of Superboat ):D
I do remember that day at Kismit, you had dinner with Rick, Marcy and my self, we kept Superbabi on JC's lift for a couple of months, we had a blast out on the Great south bay with Rick and Kate, Coen, Jim H, Superbash, Lightspeed, Superboat Joe. We have some great memories out on the South Shore !!!! Good luck with your new Super Y2K !!!!!

H2oscene 03-28-2007 05:34 AM

Where did I pull out superbash??? Total brain fart... Bye the way good luck with the new rebuild

FX10 03-28-2007 09:35 PM

The stringers are halfway glass in. Tomorrow they will be complete. The the final balsa core will be applied to the bottom of the hull. I''ll have pics up tomorrow.

Rick

H2oscene 03-29-2007 05:49 AM

Rick you Guys are moving right along ... (Told JC that I need wires run to bunk for two small fans)... Hope he orders the equiptment soon, youll be done in no time

FX10 03-30-2007 04:35 PM

Hopefully Monday we can get the Balsa completed. Moving right along.
Also, are you getting, or installing a stereo ? If so, let me know so I can run the wires for the speakers, power and memory.

Rick

H2oscene 03-31-2007 07:38 AM

I think we should put in wire for a basic stereo - Reciever and 4-speakers in cockpit

H2oscene 04-01-2007 07:34 AM

Rick, " I" had a great idea lets go back to a black airscoop, I ran it by JC yesterday.... now my boat will have matching wind screens and airscoop just like JC...

FX10 04-01-2007 11:39 AM

Your the boss !! You know what they say.... Once you go Black, yada yada yada. LOL

FX10 04-02-2007 06:16 PM

Almost finished the Balsa Core. A few feet left on the port side, then the bulkheads go in.
Rick

H2oscene 04-02-2007 09:53 PM

Sounds great, cant wait to see the bulkheads in and get some more pictures... Did you start the white engine hatch with the black airscoop? That airscoop is one beautiful piece of work it really finishes off the back of the boat in style.

FX10 04-10-2007 06:26 AM

I'm back from North Carolina. Had to do some repairs on Moms house there. I'll be a glassing fool today. I'll try to have some pics up tonight.

Rick
