Ahhhh!
I can't believe you just went and did that.I'll never try to figure out what'd cost to run my boat.
I like to deny myself that kind of knowledge.

1, used and on a budget ( we all start some where )
2 , new and knows its the best deal out there ( stock merc. not many options.) also some what on a budget. The bulk of the buyers.
3, not many buyers at this price point, New and set up nice with all the goodies, and the cash to go Merc Racing motor. Why is the thought that if one can afford what he wants he is wrong. For me Merc. Racing works out best.

Does the 525/XR come with a 5 year warrenty. If not then Y buy MERC. I dont think H2O will sell for 90k if he just spent 110K ? Im just guessing on price. Thats a 20k hit ! If he takes 40 rides that $500 a ride plus fuel and insurance. So every time you go out its going to cost you $600 !! Must be nice

Boats are all about loosing money! BOAT Stands for Break Out Another Thousand RITE !! Now loosing money and enjoying money are 2 different things ! The question is how much is a ride worth to someone ? Thats Y my boat is for sale ! I dont use it enough to make it worth keeping ! If my kids where older I mite use it more and at a faster pase. Cruzing around at 50 can get quite tiresome.

Someone that has the $$ to buy Merc Racing is certainly not, "wrong". I'm quite sure that Merc Racing sells more high performance marine engines than all others by a lot. That fact would indicate that more people share your view. If you got the money then what the hell...
It's just my opinion that Merc Racing engines are over priced when compared to others. Remember, I'm one of the guys in category 1...
You and I need to continue this debate over a drink or two. So when are we getting together?

I would prefer to have not done this calculation as Storm had suggested.
But, I did it anyhow...
I bought my boat 5 years ago and excluding gas and insurance I have in the neighborhood of 35K invested.
She's worth maybe 15k today so thats 20K over 5 years or 4K per year.
At 20 rides per year, i may be lucky enough to do a few more, that's $200 per ride. Holy crap! this is an expensive hobby...
Worth every penny though!
