Faster has an 800HP in the same boat with the same XR drive as you G.
Like I said when we talked, just buy a spare so you are not down for long when/if the drive breaks.
You are a Merc guy, just buy a spare Merc XR.

mdg seems happy w/ his konrad setup.
BUT, I'd say it'd be easier to have 3 XRs.(1on the boat, one ready to go, and one can be at shop)
And you can buy used XRs.

Gary the Konrad ace will get it done on the y2k,more expensive ,but will save you in the long run.The bravo drives behind 800hp is a grenade with the pin out,its just a matter of time BOOM!.The B-max has the strongest upper but you will have to run a 1.3 ratio which your boat probably won't like. The teagues and imco might be a little better than the mercs, but not much.I have customers that have better luck with mercs ,some better with imco, teagues.I do think that if you use a imco torsional input shaft(used on there extension box)that helps absorb the load.I don't think they make a shaft for the merc its set up,but need to find out.I set up a 38 cig 509 blowers 700hp stock bravos with the imco shafts, boat has over 250hrs no drive issues,Randy at mti has also told me his cats running bravos do a lot better with the imco shafts, also a friend with a 37 outerlimits was told the same info from the factory. The bravo xr style drive will hold for a while but throttle man will determine how long,If you like to run it like you stole it,you better consider a Konrad. They are having a sale on them till mid December. This winter i am installing a set on a 38 powerplay(twin mdg700hp) and also one on a 29 fountain(single mdg950hp) we also might be putting a set on a39 mti(mdg750).Give me a call if you are interested will get a great price if we order them all at the same time.Dave 410-956-5381

I agree th Konrad is the best bang for the buck, but it will be at its limit. And I have plenty of experience with them.Im also a dealer. There an awesome drive, but over 800HP you need an Arneson or a 6 for zero drive problems.Period.

Gary, I think any XR style drive is not going to last. Your are building a very serious machine and I don't think you want a drive to let go at 95 mph!! You also don't want the feeling that eveytime you go out it is going to be the time it blows. I think the Konrad is the way to go.

Thanks, for all the info. on the drives everyone. Dave ( MDG ) you sure know your stuff, the guys in your area are sure lucky to have someone like you doing there work !!!! For now its a wait and see what happens. If I can sell the whole pkg. as one it will be a new superboat, otherwise the motor will be sold and a 800efi will go in the existing hull. Perhaps a spare xr will have to be the ticket.

From what you've told me, you are not hard on the boat.

By the way, SB30 (Scott) is running a procharged 496Mag through a standard Bravo 1 for 2 years + with no problems.

My bud T-Mone has run 600HP through a standard B1 on his 24' Pantera for 4 years and believe me, no one runs harder.

With 800 in your boat, sure it will blow eventually, but you could replace it 3 times before spending the $$ for a different drive.
