Im sure my boat is the only boat ever built with a modified tank from the factory !!!! Being the boat is a 99 and the tank was purchased in 96 !! Tanks are easy enough to pressure check !! After seeing what was in my boat I would check all early step bottom boats including 24,s and 34,s. They only built 2 step bottom tempests, mine and one in the bahamas with outboards. If this happend to a wellcraft it would be a class action suit or a factory recall but its not.

Mike, the step in the 24 is tiny compared to the Y2K hull. No tank has ever been modified for a 24. It uses the same tank as the un stepped model. And the 34 uses a standard rectangle tank, also unmodified. So believe me, it's not necessary to check them.
The tank in your boat was modified because the cockpit floor is lower in the Tempest model then the Y2K. With the Y2K deck, the stringers are almost 2" taller, allowing the tank to come up without modifying it.
As far as a recall. Or class action suit. I highly doubt that Wellcraft or any other manufacturer would do a recall because of one tank.

In the early step bottom 30,s the step was an inch . Never had a 24 so I dont know. Your saying the 24 step is less than an inch !! Easy enough to tell. Someone with a 24 can measure and let us know. If the step is less than an inch why have one at all, If its an inch and under the tank I would pressure check it to be safe. No harm in checking.
As for a recall one tank no but if theirs more Yes !! Im sure wellcraft would have done the repair for free . And John offered me nothing !!
Rick you did give me lots of great advice on the build and repair from start to finish everything except doing the job yourself. And for that your welcome on my boat anytime !!

It seems like I measured the steps on my 24 once and it was 1" or 1 1/8". I can't remember which.
