Default hydraulic steering conversion

So right now I have a hybrid hydraulic setup with dual imco rams but a cable system.

Any recommendations on parts for a full system? I'm assuming I can keep the existing IMCO rams and buy all the other parts.

What brand/parts do I need? Any idea what costs might be? Installation time?

Thanks!

There are several kits out there to do just that. I went with a Zeiger kit. Had everything I needed and the price was good too. I talked with one of the principals of the company and he even gave me his cell to call him on the weekend if I had any trouble. No need to call though, it was pretty easy to do.

The hardest part is cutting the hose and installing the fittings. I went to a local hydraulic shop and they cut and assembled the hoses for beer money.

It can be done in a weekend. I think I paid $1000 +/- for my kit a few years ago. Yours would be a little more because of the dual rams.

Just adding the helm is pretty easy. The kits offered by CP or Hardin are pretty complete, a little pricey but they come with everything you need. You could piece it together your self also and save some money if you know what you are looking for.

No reason to pay someone to do this. If you can turn a wrench, you can add the internal steering! It's a pretty painless job. I did mine with my wife as a helper!

My mechanic is an imco dealer and he's working with imco now to dermine the bits needed to convert the current setup (internal cable with external dual ram assist) to a full hydraulic.

He says he thinks parts will be around $2k.

IMCO is good stuff, but you'll get a better price on the Zeiger. The basic fact is that they all use most of the same parts. They all use a Char-Lynn helm, Aeroquip hose and fittings, and a generic filter. The main difference will be in the steering hub assembly. That's what each manufacturer makes (or has made for them) on thier own.

The parts needed are:

Char-Lynn Hydraulic Helm
Aeroquip Hose & Fittings
Filter
Steering hub
Possibly a new steering wheel depending on the hub
ATF
A weekend
