De-rigged and she's getting ready for the glass work (backseat is out):
|
looks like the cut-out for the bell-housing is still nice and dry. The transom looks dry. Nice work at Rick's shop.
Please keep the pics comin' for this nice winter project. What are you gonna do to the back end to beef it up some? Is your external steering gonna be power-steering? Will there be engine upgrades? |
Yeah, wood is in great shape.. its getting twin cylinder full hyd steering. No motor upgrades planned at this time. It kills me not to do some while its out...
The boat is in Attica, OH. Kevin Brown is doing the work and has a plan for adding stringers, or structure to them and building a mini bulkhead or two probably. Redoing the boxes on the sides where the battery and trim pump sit and probably tying them all together. I told him to make her bulletproof and I'm confident he will deliver.. then its back to Mansfield with her to put it all back together. |

Keep the pictures coming. It's fun to watch others spend their money...:evilb: |
Some ideas for you...

I've got shots from when Gary owned her...

The solid motor mounts arn't happening at this time.. already mentioned checkin the hull/deck joint and seeing how he thought it looked (before buying the boat, I looked in the nose at em because I knew about yours). Looked ok to me at the time..
What repairs were you doing in the second season pics? More flex and cracks? Same spots after the first season, or? Believe me, I'm not thrilled to be spending money on glass, but it needs to be done because the boat is too nice to let go. |
Yea, I did/had done gass repairs 4 out of 5 years I owned my 24' Super.
The second year I had repaired a stress crack that ran along the strake from the transome forward about 3ft. They added glass on the inside of the boat above the outer stringer and between the stringers but it didn't help. The crack came back so I would just seal it with gelcoat from time to time when it got bad. I added the mount so that the stringers would be tied together and add strength. I cracked a stringer on my 20' Donzi Minx in much the same way a few years before and Ocean Performance added a similar engine mount when they fix that boat for me. My Velocity also has the same engine mount and it was rigged from the factory as a F1 race boat. I asked John Coen about a hard engine mount and he told me the stringers were too close together so he had not done this to a 24 Super. OP figured it out for me though. I don't think I took any detailed pictures of the crack on the strake, but I will take a look. |
I agree the solid mount is the way to go. I lost a coupler due to the merc mounts coming loose.
I didn't have any other hull issues and it had 700+ hrs. when I sold it. |
