Winter upgrades: who's doing what?
Any plans for this winter?
The 24 is getting full hyd steering... finally. I bought another Marine Machine cylinder and had both of them rebuilt by MM. They also beefed up my wingplate cyl mounts some. As of now, the plan is to replace my old 110s K-planes with a set of 280s and mech indicators. The swim platform will be getting re-powdercoated too while all this is going on.. grip tape has started coming up and will pull the powdercoat up with it when trying to remove. Not sure if I'll be able to do anything to the 21.. the 24 gets first priority this winter. |
Sounds good! You will notice a big difference with the full steering.

I have plans for a cam change. And maybe a bigger screw and try running some real gas. Rite now the intake is off and all checked out well. Will need a small hole to remove the cam.

Well... I had planned on doing a little glass work to the 24 while she was getting upgraded this winter. Its turned into more serious glass work. No rot or anything- beefing up the back end some. I had a screw that secures the battery tray that was starting to get close to making a hole in the bottom- just making a dent underneath. I figure it was due to flex.. yes it is. This is most likely costing me some speed as well because we think its developing a hook when running fast. None of the wood is wet in the core- thank god.. its a good thing we're taking care of it now. The bottom back end is just flexing too much, so we're going to beef her up right.
Everything is getting pulled/ de-rigged from the back end. I have to fill the holes left by the 110 K-planes- they are a one piece design that uses around a 3" hole to pass thru the transom... work great but would like the bigger 280s along with indicators. As a result, the transom will get re-gelled. My glass guy has a plan to beef up the back end- I want it bulletproof. Its a superlight boat and an awesome performer, but after years of running hard, she needs some attention. Also, Happy Thanksgiving! |
Y2K off season upgrades:
1) upgrading hydraulic assist to full from the helm hydraulic steering 2) Replacing staples on rear seat vinyl with stainless 3) Redoing the undersides of the canopies (peeling) 4) A new prop might be nice too :) |
1. Repair an exhaust flapper. 2 min. job once I get the part.
2. Add a transom trim switch. 3. Maybe add some vinyl graphics. Probably just flags on the bow. |
Dave, who's doin' your v graphics?
I was thinking about getting some done as well. |
