Y2K, 2 questions for the experts

hey fellas, thinking about buying a Y2K, there is a 2005 on this site, what would be the cost to drop a new 496 HO or 525 into this boat complete turn key? Question #2, would you rather buy the 2005 and put the new motor in, or if the numbers are close, buy the 2008 w/525 (on this site) w/hours on it ? Thanks,

I would check with John @ superboat. I know he has some pretty good deals on new ones.

A new 496HO will cost around 14-15K, a used 525, probably 15-20K. Plus some labor if you don't do it yourself.

As far as question #2, I don't think a fellow Superboater is going to publicly recommend either boat over the other.

I'm no longer a Superboater, so I guess it's OK I chime in.
I'd buy the used 2005 boat without power and install my own.
Probably cost less than half of the new one.
As for the 2008, that's half way in the middle $$ wise. It's turn key but no warrenty on a Merc blue engine. The headers on the 525s are an issue from what I've read and heard.
Both Superbabi, the 05, and the 2008 builds are documented here on OSO and FX10 built them, so the hulls are good ones.

The 2005 and 2008 are priced about the same, you buy a used 525 complete installed for around 20k which puts you at 57k asking for the 2005,the 2008 has the updated bottom and is 3 years newer 71k asking go look at both boats and figure out which one will work the best for you, cannot go wrong with either,if you go for the 2005 hull i do have a complete rebuilt merc 502-500 with new gil exhaust, dart heads I am working on it now and will be ready this winter should make around 550hp and priced around 10-12k could be an option for you

For that price layup doesn't matter. I don't know which boat Coen is referring to. We have 2 Y2K's. Hunnington Beach's, and one at my shop. As for the 502? Noli, sure it wasn't a 496 Mag, or HO ?? With those motors you get a 6 year warranty on motor and drive, I'm pretty sure.
I believe Robs boat has the race layup, and the in stock boat is the standard layup.

I understand it's a great deal, but the layup does matter if you intend to run it hard or put bigger power in some day. I would think they'll move quickly at that price regardless.

For some reason some post have been deleted.
Maybe that 65K price was not for real?
Or maybe OSO wants Superboat to pay for the advertizing?
